I want this keyless entry pad so bad - but apparently it's only for "newer" Nissans?

I have this feature on my SHO and love it. I would love to be able to install this on our 4th gen. Maximas. I asked Pinnacle and they said it was only for the "new" Nissans. What do you guys think? Any chance of getting this to work with a 4th gen?

And for those of you who are going to say "Why would you need this if you already have a keyless entry remote?", there are many good reasons. The beauty of it is you can actually lock your keys in the car, on purpose (and conversly, never lock your keys in by accident). Like when you are going to the beach, mountain biking, etc. Also, there are lots of times when I'm in the garage or driveway, want something from my locked car but my keys are in the house. Once I was locked out of my house, the Maximas with homelink were in the garage but my SHO was on the driveway. I unlocked the SHO via keypad and opened the garage with the garage door opener. Situations like that. :)

I too hate it when my keys are on the house. LOL ;)

For starters, it's butt ugly. Will comment more later on this.......

ROCKART Nov 16, 2007 11:49 AM

you are talking about the numerical pads under the door handle?

i think i seen those on a 96 explorer. no reason they should be "too new" for your car. dont know if they would be able to retroed to fit, but they definitely were around when our cars were made. hell i think ive even seen this on a 3rd gen.

Dynasty47x1 Nov 16, 2007 11:58 AM

They are on the 3rd gen i used to use them to lock and open the door i dont remeber the codes anymore though.

Not necessary under the door handle. I was thinking of putting it on our B pillar. Not quite sure how it mounts yet though (wired? wireless/stick-on?).

Flava_24/7 Nov 16, 2007 12:26 PM

Jeez those things are so ugly.Id never put that crap on my car, keyholes are bad enough.

BLACKonBLACK98 Nov 16, 2007 12:44 PM

i think it should be able to work... i considered doing this when my door handles were shaved. i've seen better looking ones than that. just wire it up to a constant 12v and splice the output into the unlock wire.

Jellyfishian Nov 16, 2007 01:09 PM

Way back when we had a 2nd gen Maxima Wagon it had those hehe...

drax89 Nov 20, 2007 11:29 AM

I would get the handles off of a 3rd gen and have the buttons molded into 4th gen handles so it looks more stock and flush than these bulky american ones

JtzMax Nov 20, 2007 01:40 PM

I miss this from my 3rd Gen .... would love to have another one. If you are able to pull this off ... PM a MOD to make it a Sticky for all of us!

Snypa Nov 20, 2007 02:46 PM

i too have also seen them on turds

liquidzer0 Nov 20, 2007 03:07 PM

i thought you were talking about that little square on the door handle that once its pressed it unlocks all the doors like in the altimas

Sure, it's a tad ugly. But, aside from the actual benefits, the status of being the only 4th gen. with it is worth it. :D

What do you mean about Sarah's dog? Lila doesn't have a doggy door, if that's what you mean.

BLACKonBLACK98 Nov 21, 2007 09:44 AM

i'm pretty sure they all operate the same way (assumption) so shop around a little and see if you can find a prettier one.

VIP Maxima Nov 21, 2007 10:03 PM

have the dog run and get the key !!!!!!!!!

cefiro8701 Nov 21, 2007 10:40 PM

isn't there a way you can put it somewhere it cant be seen...

like underneath the mirror or something...

that just ruins the look of the car...

it gives your door handles "eyebrows"

I never said I would put it above the door handle. I already mentioned that I was thinking about the B-pillar (black on black). Or, yes, somewhere hidden/less conspicuous.

VIP Maxima Nov 22, 2007 11:44 AM

doggy door FTW ! lol

Now we're going in circles, I already told you she doesn't have a doggy door. :p

Besides Michael, you know Lila has no skills other than keeping her tail curled up on her back so the whole world can see her bunghole and sniffing your crotch when you are working on the car.

VIP Maxima Nov 22, 2007 11:59 AM

make the doggy door for it, thats what i mean !!!

bahahahahahaha, i remember i was under the car laying on my back struggling to get that clamp on the drain back hose with both hands and next thing i know, there is Lila staring at me eye face to face and then BAMMM, she gave me a face wash. ahahha good times man

Digitized Nov 22, 2007 12:18 PM

Yep, my 1987 Maxima had the keyless button pad. It was great! Miss it in my '98.

Cdg2125 Nov 22, 2007 05:56 PM

I loved my keypad on my 91. I wish I had one now. If it's put in nicely under the handle, not like the SHO it would still look good. I think show people are more objective to it. I like to have my car look clean and all but its still a DD and I want the most options to make daily life easier. I would love to see you work this out man. I would assume with the parts from nissan it should be able to be modded into the 4th gen. What parts are actually needed? Is there a special system in the 3rd gens or such? Or is it a seperate part of the lock/unlock stuff?

HomerMAC Nov 23, 2007 06:07 PM

i love the keypad idea. I used to be only able to open the window on an old 3rd gen cause i forgot the codes for other things but hey, it did the job.

Cdg, I agree, if it were under the handle or somewhere inconspicuous, I think it would be a slick addition, without being a huge eyesore. Your questions about what installation parts are entailed are the same questions I have. I thought at first this was actually wireless and battery operated. But it might very well be hard wired. You know what? For $55 (plus shipping of course), I think I am going to just take a chance and order it. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you guys updated.

Homer, are you saying that the 3rd gen. keypad also rolled down the windows?! That's way cool. My SHO doesn't do that. Just lock one door, all doors, or trunk, and lock all doors.

ptatohed Nov 23, 2007 07:09 PM

I found a website that apparently sells univerial kits. But at $180, that's a bit steep.

Hmm... I guess I was right - it is stick-on/wireless. But, again, it is not meant for our 4th gen. Maximas. :(

I would try to cut out little squares on the bottom part of the door handle, so to only stick the touch pad buttons out.. nice and clean instead of having that whole piece there... :p
