thinking of upgrading to R34 style headlights. Pros and cons?
After various searching here and from the past people have told me they require very little modding and I have heard the beam patten kinda sucks... but I gotta tell you... They are probably way better then my AE style ones I bought of FLeabay. I need new corners and I honestly rather replace these fairly new headlights R34 one style ones because our cars look good with them and the corners come back.
So what do you think? IS the beam patten really that bad with HIDs? I have 6K and my beam patten is decently wide but extreamly short and it has to do with the headlights not having and cap domes over the HID or blub. So it reduced distence. These headlights probably go like 20ft. IF that in front me. It sucks. If you have expericence with these headlights can you post some HID only pics of your car's lights on the road? Thanks Now I just got to finda reliable vendor to buy them off of... |
Beam pattern does blow. I just got these lights and they are horrible. There is like 3 hot spots with no light in between. As someone once said its like the beam pattern is a big W. I dont have HID's in there but just the stock lights and they suck... i have projects waiting to go in tho, so im not too worried. I cant imagine the HID's being much better then the stock lights... just brighter and hotter hot spots.

Pros: Good fitment
Cons: Light pattern ( not a concern if you are going to retrofit projectors in them) |
I have them on my car. I love them on my car. I don't have HID's but i did swap a high beam bulb into the low beam spot. The W seemed to disappear A LITTLE and i could actually drive w/them. I would bet a paycheck that HID's would even out the hot spots more than my 9005 bulb did.
r34 headlights compared to our stock headlights... these kill stock all day w/a little modification by changing bulbs. Go for it. Just make sure you use a diode and new wiring w/relays to get both high and low lit for optimum visibility when you need it. |
i have them on my car, with hid's and i still get the W beam pattern. pros, they look good, really good. its also nice to have separate high beam bulbs. and they fit perfectly.
cons, they sometimes get humid inside, like wen you wash the car, and that W beam pattern but hey u get used to it |
I have to agree with everyone one this. The fitment is great the beam pattern sucks. If you retro like i did you get rid of that pattern tho.

besides the fact that i personally don't like them, the con of your headlights not enabling you to see at night can not be offset.
