Odd headlight problem

So I just got a new maxima, 1995 SE, and I am having a headlight problem. I will just be driving along and the bright light indicator will light up on the dash... the kicker is that 1. I am not hitting the bright lights the indicator just comes on and 2. the bright lights arent even coming on when that happens. And to finish it all off, the drivers side headlight turns off when all of this happens. Once the light turns off everything goes back to normal.

Any ideas of help would be good.

Also I will try and get some pictures of the car just to show it off and all... definitely a different atmosphere for me coming from 92se maxima and a 91 300zx.. but happy to be on this forum again.

Have you checked out the wiring harness to (likely the driver's side) headlights?

i have the same problem too, so i just wiggle the connection on the bulb that is out and it usually fixes it. most likely the bulb's connection is getting bad

I would check the harness on the headlights. Any sorta of melting. What bulbs are you using? Switch to stock or do the 9007 upgrade. that helps.

If those don't fix your problem, your light stalk could be bad and needing to be replaced.

First off, the High-beam light comes on to tell you that you blew a headlight, much like a directional light will blink faster when a bulb within the directional loops is out.

Yup, it's definitely the harness. I had the same problem. I assume you have stronger headlights than stock and this sometimes causes the connections to melt inside the harness. Look inside the harness and see if anything melted. Chances are it is.

If it did, run to auto zone / pep boys and pick up a new harness. I got ones that were made for stronger wattage. They run about $5-10 (if even that) While you are there you might as well get two, because the other stock one will inevitably go if you keep running the stronger wattage bulbs. It only takes about 10-15 mins to change both. Just match up the wiring order of the new harness to the order of the old harness.

Good luck.

Harness for sure.

On a side note, can your sig be any bigger???

mtnbikeair 02-02-2008 08:26 AM

Well I will go get a harness today, thanks for all the input.

And about the sig... I am not sure what to say, because on my computer its showing up small...?

All three pics don't fall on one line, thus taking up 60%-70% of my 19" monitor. Oh well, guess it's just me. Hope that harness works out for ya.

mine would both go off when i turned my headlights on completly i just checked mine and the worked u sould do the same and my head light light was on too all the time.

Does the car have daytime running lights ? If not,
the issue is 90% the harness

mtnbikeair 04-17-2008 09:36 PM

Alright.... so an update on the issue... I spliced in a new wiring connector thingy coming out of the headlight to the stock wiring as well as put in some new headlight bulbs ( silverstar bulbs, even though I reckon that doesnt matter) but I am still getting the same problem.

Normally when the drivers light goes off is when I am shifting, I guess just the movement of the car effects it somehow, but then there are also times it will go crazy and just go on and off like a strobe light. Is there a whole headlight wiring harness I could replace, or any ideas as to where I could trace it back to?
