I'm getting some hesitation/misfire

When I'm cruising holding it at a steady RPM it will feel like I'm running out of gas. I have a 5spd, and it almost feels like if you take your foot off the gas and the car starts to slow down, except my foot isn't moving. I'm thinking a coil could be going bad. I'm going to replace my fuel filter on saturday and see if it makes a difference. Its about time to replace it anyway.

It did it a few times on the highway in 5th gear and it did it again tonight going home from work in 3rd doing about 35mph.

Any ideas?

Any codes? Sounds like a misfire, which would most likely be a coil.

I haven't scanned for codes due to the fact my CEL is on because I dont have a post cat o2 sensor.. I'll check that on saturday as well when I have access to a scanner.

You don't need a scanner :newbie:

EDIT: just re-read your symptoms, you actually specifically mention leaving foot in the same position, but the stutter really does feel just like running out of gas but in very quick bursts right? No doubt this is just the only drawback to the FW that you are experiencing, if you lived close I could hop in your car and be like "watch, I'll get it to do it" and you'd be like "oh ****"

Original post: It's more of a short stutter (just like 3-5 pulses long) that happens when you lightly but very very rapidly press the gas pedal just a little more right?

Lightweight flywheel symptom, we all experience that :)

Would an unbalanced flywheel cause this symptom to be felt excessively?

I get that too, but this is different. It also did this before I put the FW in. I think what you're describing is when you shift and get into the gas too much at low RPMs or let your foot off the gas and put it on and you feel a little bit of a forced missfire. What I'm getting is when I'm driving down the road the engine will sound like its bogging and if I push the gas while its doing this nothing happens. It will catch up and then the car will accelerate but it takes a second or two. Maybe the MAF? I just remembered I have a friend with a new Altima that did something similar to this, they changed his MAF at the dealership and it fixed it... hmmmm

Perhaps check the codes?

shiftnatredline Feb 7, 2008 07:12 PM

how do i check codes w/o a scanner?

NmexMAX Feb 7, 2008 07:17 PM

Have you ever taken a look at the stickys or searched?
