Possible fuel gauge issue?

Hey all,

New Maxima owner here....well, got a new to me '99. When I bought it Friday afternoon, it was reading about 1/4 on the fuel gauge. I drove it for quite a bit and the needle never moved. Well, being paranoid like usual, I filled the car up at the gas station, took 11 gallons to fill. Now the gauge reads full. Again, I drove it for a while yesterday and the needle still hasn't moved from full.

I know the Max has a powerful V6, but it is really that fuel efficient too? Am I just being overly paranoid?

Thanks for your help.
Al

Those are some pretty vague terms. Talk in terms of approximate miles.....

You're probably just paranoid. And yes, the Maxima is pretty good on gas if you don't have a lead foot and all maintenance is current.

Yeah, I see what your saying....actual miles I'm not sure, maybe 35 on Friday and around 20 yesterday. Thanks for the input.

I'll be more patient with it....I've always wanted a Maxima and now that I have one, I want it to be perfect I guess, even though I'm the 3rd. owner.

35 miles will burn about 1.5gals, and when you fill it up to full the needle will usually stay there for quite a while, then drop more rapidly. My needle actually stays above full for the first 50 miles or so

on that, needle does stick on full awhile, then will drop pretty rapidly depending on how you accelerate. once at halfway point, sticks again and then will drop pretty fast.

True that. Sometimes mine sticks at 3/4 but they will hang out at full and at half for a while.
