wiring harness question??

Okay I'm really getting agravated with Nissan right now. I took my car to them to get my ecu programmed and they are telling me that their consult 2 wont read my 99 ecu. They said the reason for this is either the 99 ecu i got is cooked or the 97 wiring harness I have wont work. They said the 97 iring harness doesn't have Nats which it why it is not reading the 99 ecu. I thought all the harnesses where the same. Aren't they? So my question is can't you use any wiring harness from 95-99 in any of those years and is Nissan just trying to get me to pay for a new wiring harness or are they messing with me?

I know there is a difference between the 95-96 vs the 97-98. Mainly evap stuf and egr or something like that. So the 99 harnest could be a little different.

I think the ECU is different in 99' due to the added "standard options" (i.e. Auto Climate). So .. you have a 97 Maxima? or a 99? Why is the ECU of a different year? Did you do this, buy it this way ... or is this the first you are finding out about it? Need more info ... But IIRC, the 99 ECU is different.

What are you "re-programing" it for anyway ???? A possible solution could be a JWT ECU ... higher rev limit too.

99's have NATS, so that means you need a 99 ecu and a 99 wiring harness because the 95-98 harnesses wont have the Nats line to the ignition.

So get a 99 ecu and a 99 wiring harness...problem solved.

I dont believe it would work since the 97s dont have nats....That is why 99s are a bich to fix sometimes...

And if you have to use a 99 engine harness, since i have a 97 engine harness is that why when i hooked up the scan tool to my car it just read error? because it doesnt have the Nats line in the harness? and since i have the 97 harnes coould i get a 95-98 ecu and call it a day or does it not work that way?

tell me about it. Now i have to go back up there and feel like a jack*** because he told me about the NATS line and i thought it was bs but there no way i'm paying them close to 2000 grand to change an engine harness when i can get one for maybe 2 300 and change it myself. plus they wont know what to do with my 35's injector clips

Do you have a 3.5? If so then it would be better to swap in a 3.5 ecu and harness...but if not than yes. you do need a 99 harness and ecu....but why is the harness bad? How did the ECU fry? This shouldnt have ever happened...

Trust me I have done some stupid shiit with my harness and my car still runs fine...

Oh this changes things...To use the 3.5 ecu you need the ECU, whole wiring harness, ignition for the nats, and you can use the gauge cluster if you want...
