Cleaning the IACV and it won't come apart..?

I'm cleaning my IACV, but the two halves of it (where tis connected by the two gold screws) won't come apart to let me get at the innies so it can be properly cleaned out.

I tried tapping it wit ha hammer, which didn't work, and right now I'm letting the liquid wrench soak into the joint. Anyone have an insight one this? I'm not keen on breaking it, and I'd like to get it cleaned so I don;t have to put it back on and take it off again (requiring me to go buy another gasket).

Vice grips are what I used IIRC.

It wasn't attached quite as I'd imagined, but I got it off from tapping he underside of it with a hammer, and then when there was enough of a gap, I used a flathead to wedge around the gap and get it apart.

Are you talking about the gold cap?

ROCKART Mar 7, 2008 06:05 AM

yea mohf and i had troulbe gettin the gold cap off....ended up stripping a screw so we just left it the way it was

The gold cap was no problem, and soooooo much carbon buildup in there... But yeah, if my IACV was any indication, you DO NOT need to take off the tan colored plastic part where the 6 pin connector plugs in, that part was in perfect condition.

A brand new one is less than $200. Just throw one of those on.

Big diff between $200 and $2000!

(plus, if I thought I could get a quality paintjob for $2K, I'd be interested in that TOO)
