Any way to reduce Bee's in Can sound? ALSO battery terminal making fuzz

I go a warpspeed and it seems its getting ALOT worse. Im sure my gaskets are good Because i've changed them twice.

...unfortunately i was sold a faulty y-pipe by a popular member on this forum, very mis leading.

Anyways, tips?

*************

ALSO

my + terminal on my battery is making this blue fuzz. I tried brushing it off but it keeps coming back. Wut is it?

MOHFpro90 Mar 11, 2008 07:20 PM

Not tops on the noise, but:

Fuzz? probably something in the air with the right ionization to attract to the terminal. Maybe a mold or something, but I doubt it. Spray on some brake cleaner to clean it.

yea, its like blue-ish/green crystals. It comes back quick.

MOHFpro90 Mar 11, 2008 10:23 PM

Brake or TB cleaner.

HM_Motorsports Mar 11, 2008 10:37 PM

Ussually happens when the battery is getting near the end of its life or the terminals are not tight enough. Make sure they're tight and get your battery tested.

wrap your y-pipe flex section with exhaust wrap.

sparks03max Mar 12, 2008 12:32 AM

Have an exhaust shop weld in an extra resonator, fit the biggest one you can in any spot that there's room. It will make a big diff

99BlackMaxMS Mar 12, 2008 07:15 AM

The blue stuff is battery acid....

Get a newer cattman y pipe if you have the $. The new flex section on those are about 8-10 inches IIRC.

ROCKART Mar 12, 2008 07:27 AM

i bought a little packet of this "battery terminal conditioner" at autozone for 99 cents by the register. it looks like a single serving ketchup thing.

kymax96 Mar 12, 2008 04:09 PM

my battery did the same thing and died 2 months after the battery acid started building up

IMO, that's not going to do much for the bees in the can sound he's hearing.

OP, if you're in a pinch and can't afford a quality y-pipe *cough*Cattman*cough* then I'd use header/exhaust wrap as I think it's the cheapest and easiest alternative. And since the y-pipe isn't the best to begin with anyway, I wouldn't worry about the ill side effects exhaust wrapping causes.

Why is a Y pipe not the best to begin with?

He means Warpspeed y pipe.

Poor wording on my part. I was only referring to his buzzing Warspeed y-pipe, not y-pipes in general.

A y-pipe is a very good bang for the buck mod.

Oh ok thanks! So the Budget Y pipe is going to be ok in my 96? I want to keep the cost down, so I don't want to drop over $400.00 for a stock Y pipe, so enter Budget's Y pipe. However the rest of the exhaust will be stock, and I don't want it loud.

Thanks,
Zack

Yea casey, its good man. Best mod.

Zack, yeah the Budget y-pipe will work just fine on your 96 Maxima.

That should work. Here's a few more quick links I found where the header wrap was affordable...

To do the job right, yes you'll have to remove the y-pipe in order to wrap it tightly. Wrapping it tightly and evenly is a must.

67whitegoat Mar 12, 2008 08:32 PM

Shady, I also have the "highly regarded" warpspeed. I wrapped it and there is a notisable difference in the sound. Here are some pics.

If you wrap it, don't forget to seal it.

shadyonedeath Mar 12, 2008 09:11 PM

Seal as in steel zip ties? ?

How many layers did u wrap it in? I was thinking of just wrapping the flex section over and over.

what ill side-effects are caused by wrapping? im thinking about doing this as my OBX headers are ZZZ-ing like crazy. i may just replace the 2 flex sections with one large one to see if thats the case.

The retained heat will do headers/y-pipes in. The metal gets so hot that is actually changes the structure, the metal literally rots from the constant overheating. Warranties are void because of this. It you remove the wrap down the road you will see the metal has a funny very large grain size, you can see this on the outside of the pipe, the metal is no longer smooth but looks like a coarse sand. So, IMO don't wrap unless you plan on replacing your stuff down the road.

Ask any header manufacturer, and they'll tell ya that the warranty will be voided if you add header wrap. Header wrap is for the professional race car drivers that rebuild their engines constantly and swap in new parts.

It is good for reducing temps though...at the expense of the header/y-pipe.

Spray sealant. You can buy it wherever you get the wrap.
I just put 1 layer. The wrap comes with directions.

S1cTech Mar 13, 2008 11:41 AM

I have a tornado type sound on my budget Y. Not so much bee in the can, but I that is one reason why I never bought a warpspeed pipe. O and get battery spray protector, That is what I put on my battery when it startered to get nasty.
