Looking for a 4th gen...

Hey all, I have a few questions about buying a 4th gen Max for my daily driver. Keep in mind that I will be putting on average 30k miles or so a year on it.

My budget is up to around $3500 tops but I'm worried that if I get one with too high of miles that all of a sudden I'm going to start dumping tons of cash into it. Ideally, what would be the highest amount of mileage I should be looking for? Its hard to find any 4th gens with less than 120k miles on them for less than like $5,000 around here.

Also, what kinds of issues should I be looking for with a Max with this many miles?

Finally...if you know anyone in the NY/CT/MA area who is selling a 4th gen(preferably black, forest green or maroon) please let me know!

Thanks in advance guys.

Mmm my next suggestion is one of those car sites like www.edmunds.com or whatever other site you like to see classifieds.

yeah I've been looking on autotrader and craigslist anywhere from rhode island to pennsylvania.
besides, this isn't as much of a wanted thread as it is just looking for some sound advice on what to look for, so when I finally do find a good deal, I'll know what to look out for.

had my 95 gle for about 2 yrs now. purchased it for $3500 with 158k on it. So far i've put in a new fuel pump, steering rack, lower control arm, 2 fuel injector's, radiator, Bose head unit and I have to re-charge the A/C every couple weeks due to a hole in the evaporator that one day i'll get around to replacing, if the motor doesn't blow up first.:D But seriously, with 186k on it now it's still a nice car. Plus learning to work on it isn't that bad due to all the info and help this forum provides.:)

Miles mean nothing with these cars, and I mean that in every way. There's no magical number of miles where a given part is going to fail, or even a range of miles really. Other than maintenance items and stuff I've CHOSEN to replace, everything on my car is original at 140k+. Looking for one with a set amount of miles isn't going to help you much, more so looking for one that has been well taken care of and has documented maintenance.

just treat them good (maintenance) and they will carry you safe from A to Z.
