Where is the EGR valve?

I have read the forums but I have not seen a good picture of the EGR valve. This is what I think it is. To change it I assume I have to work from under the engine. Any have a good tutorial? I have a 1997 Maxima with 211,000 miles and I read here that if the EGR cel goes off, that with that many miles you should just replace it. What do you guys think? I have two cel's p0400 which is the EGR system and the other is p0325 which is the knock sensor, but I know how to change that after reading the site.

Is that it? Or am I wrong?

That EGR code, dosen't necessarily mean the EGR valve needs replacing, it could be as several reasons why this code is showing. One of the common ones is that EGR tube is clogged with carbon and needs to be cleaned or it could be EGR solenoid valve.. read these threads..

The 3rd link has detailed pic instructions on where all the components are.

I had the same code but it wasn't ERG valve problem. Before you order the new EGR valve, the EGR tube and valve should be cleaned up first. In my case I just replaced the brand new EGR valve but the CEL came again. The problem was the tube. I recommand to search "EGR valve".

Thanks.

I do not know if that is even it, but it seems like that is the best pic possible from the top of the engine.

put ur hand on the iavc, and go down like 4-6 inches, and you should feel it.

... and by the way... HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD! did you just pull that car from the bottom of a lake or do you regularly spray the engine compartment down with salt water?

That is very typical of upstate NY vehicle - winter road salt.

Before you waste too much time trying to fix it, follow the proper diagnostic procedures.

Download the Nissan service manual for your model year. It has the diagnostic procedures to follow to determine the cause and fix for your P0400 code.

I had the same problem on my 95 Max. I was dreading replacing that part, because I had no idea how to take it out. I followed the diagnostic procedures and it turned out that my problem was the EGRC Valve. That was an easier and much less expensive part to fix then the EGR Valve.

It's much easier and less expensive to do it right the first time then to keep guessing.

Good Luck!
