I don't know how to make descriptive thread titles!!!!!

ok heres the deal jus got hold of a 95 max 5spd..i am running hot and it is drinking coolant like corona...i changed the oil with some royal purple 5-30 and threw some lucas oil treatment in..did a radi flush and still running hot..i have a new thermostat but havent put it on yet and i have yet to give it a tune up i just got it a day ago.. any suggestions...oh and also i have a weird noise coming from the timing area..i guess when i pull the water pump out i change that also...and other big ideas

CRiME Aug 23, 2008 06:43 PM

Do you have a coolant leak?? How did the oil look when you changed it? if you know that the water pump needs to be changed, change that first and see if you still have the overheating problem. When the water pump is failing it can make some noise - that could be what you're hearing from the timing area. What does the noise sound like?

maybe the rad is shot :gotme:
do a leak test

Kevlo911 Aug 23, 2008 06:46 PM

Would it really be too hard to put what you need help with in the title

coolant, could be a dozen things. esp if u just got the car, who knows how old some of the parts and how the car was driven before you. id say start with the small parts and work ur way up.

Dude, if you have the thermostat PUT IT IN. Coolant doesn't disappear, find out where its going.... If you cant find the leak go CSI and get a fluorescent light and start looking

Love_00_Max Aug 23, 2008 08:56 PM

Coolant leaks are not good. Pressure test the system first and then go from there....

and by drinking like a corona do u mean nice and slowly enjoying it like a corona should be drank. or fast, like how much a pint, quart, gallon? that might help to solve the problem

^

It might also help to get those limes out of there !

sorry ,couldnt help it...

lots of good sugestions. If there is a leak the pressure test would be a really good idea. the noise and the leak could be the same problem...water pump.

jheaton Aug 24, 2008 06:15 PM

Definetly check for a leak in the coolant, my bro had a pro like that and it was the hoses rotted and was leaking

Crusher103 Aug 24, 2008 06:23 PM

my vote is on the water pump

poured down teh toilet would be more appropriate.

True, if the pump hasn't been replaced, it could be the source of the leak.

But before that pressure testing the system should result in no visible external leaks. If the pressure test determine no visible leaks and loss in pressure very slowly, then one is sure it is the water pump.

I had a small leak on my max and it was eventually fixed with a new pump. Pressure testing is the only way one can be sure it is the pump (no visible outside leaks).

Crusher103 Aug 24, 2008 08:07 PM

after a while with leaks coming from the water pump, it will make its way to the ground, run the car for about 30 mins make sure u get some fluid flowing and check to see if anything is dripping

natty ice would be some pour down the toilet material

B_Eaze Aug 24, 2008 08:21 PM

there would never be a corona poured down the toilet if i could help it.

did u ever find out where the coolant was going?

turbizzy Aug 25, 2008 01:21 AM

I know you just put fresh oil in it but get a clean drain pan and drain your oil. If you see coolant start draining out of the oil drain plug then for sure thats where your coolant is going. Soon after oil should start draining. If your positive only oil drained out then you can just repour it in the motor.
