5th gen rear struts work with minor modifications

When out on a limb, bought some used 5th gen struts to fit on my 98. Reason being was they were cheaper than anything else.

Just one problem. The spring perch is a bit smaller than a 4th gen. What I did is cut off the spring perches from my original struts. Then I slipped them over the new struts and welded them to the smaller perch. Piece of cake with the right tools.

All dimensions are the same except the piston length. The piston is shorter with a shorter stroke. That could be good for lowered 4th gens . I have them paired with stock springs. I have not installed them so no comment on ride.

I want some new sruts and springs so bad, because mine as getting bouncy. =[

I just don't wanna dish out $500-1000 bucks on suspension when I have a 170K car.

S1cTech, The best setup on a budget is the Tokico HP strut & spring combo. Thats is if you want to lower the car. GR-2's are great struts too, they are rather stiff.

I knew that request was comming. I didnt take any at the time, hoowever. I can snap some now that they are assembled.

I have not used isolators in years. They probably fell off at one time or aother, I have had countless suspension setups.

OK, I have been running these about a week now. The ride seems perfectly normal. The length of the stroke doesnt seem to matter, ie: no topping out. I had blown rears as my previous winter setup so its a night and day difference. They dont feel any stiffer than regular struts as far as I can tell.

I do have some rattles due to the lack of isolators. Nothing major but worth fixing some day.

so you didn't have to get a bigger spring perch like jsutter did?
Any pictures of your setup?
