brake problem
I just had a front end makeover and part of that was new pads and rotors. I decided to go with Akebono rotors and pads and for some reason couldn't find the time to do them myself so i paid a shop to do it. a week out i started to get grinding and really bad squealing. took it back to the shop and found out pad had cracked and the grinding was an edge of the pad grinding against my rotors. because i had the shop do it, they were able to get a new rotor and pad the same day, no cost to me.
any of you guys ever had this happen to you? I've been doing brakes on my car since high school and never had this happen. makes me think twice now about doing my brakes, especially considering i may or may not have got a refund and i definitely would not have the parts same day.

Sounds like something got caught between the pad and caliper. The caliper piston will put a whole lot of force on a brake pad.
As for doing your own brake work, it's not complicated or difficult. Take your time, read up on the subject, and don't rush. Each time check on things like the caliper guide pins, pad shims, and e-brake cables. Then take the car out for a test drive nice and easy.

I did have a leaking E-brake cable seal on a caliper I replaced on my Max once, but all I had to do was go back to the store I bought it from and get another one.
Pads and rotors (and calipers, for that matter) are so easy to change, it hardly seems worth taking your car to a shop to get those done.

i agree, thats why i asked. i've been doing brakes on cars for sometime now and its just something that made me step back and say 'woah.' i mean, i've never had that happen to me or even heard of it happening. Rotors warping, calipers seizing, yes, pads cracking, thats a new one.
