Darn, I bought two 4th gen Max's in the last 30 days. I guess I should have read that first.

EEMaxima Jan 27, 2009 09:06 PM

That's not a particularly negative or thorough review. He just had a bad experience.

I love my Maxima and everyone I know who has owned a 4th gen adored theirs.

ThurzNite Jan 27, 2009 09:18 PM

Must be something about UK Maximas or whatevers. Here in the US, we love our Maximas!

 waiting for someone in UK to chime in

As the banner up top says, "MAXIMA.ORG - The Home For Maxima Enthusiasts"... I expect most people here to love their Maxima, and be swayed towards Pros and skim over the Cons.

Agent R31 Jan 28, 2009 01:12 AM

i have to admit the 4th Gen Max. takes a beating and keeps on ticking, this car is def. a great bang for the buck

V6 + great gas mileage + no1 wants to steal it = bestbuy

max95q Jan 28, 2009 02:30 AM

Bah, Im not stressing about it. This is my second maxima and Im in the process of looking at another 4th gen for my wife. She loves driving mine so much Im needing to get her her own to leave mine alone.

Most I ever had was 3 Maximas sitting in my driveway. Down to 1 now. Bang for buck, and reliability... has me temped at checking out 5.5gens now... even tho I swore my next car would be a rwd or at least a luxury car.

ThurzNite Jan 28, 2009 02:52 AM

and what the hell is

...generally baggy drive
???

1HotA32 Jan 28, 2009 04:19 AM

that guy just had a lemon i love 4th gens so much that i have 2 and one is at 300,000 miles so they must be pretty good.

ChipperX Jan 28, 2009 05:57 AM

He Wasn't An Enthusiast...

...And hopefully gave his honest opinion. The review was not a bad one, it just pointed out flaws that everyone generally accepts and lives with -- although one must wonder why he felt this particular generation had "slushy" handling. It doesn't. Was he comparing the 4th Generation Maxima's handling characteristics to Porche, BMW and Mercedes, perhaps? If so, this is high praise, indeed. My 1998 Maxima had handling which surpassed all my expectations -- my ex liked it so much, we ended up with a 2002 right next to my 1998, and then two years later we BOTH bought new 6th Generation Maximas (2004 and 2005). This ain't my first rodeo boys, and I know that the Maxima has handling which beats the pants off most stock saloon people-mobiles.

sam_918 Jan 28, 2009 06:13 AM

This looks a lot like the consumer reviews on edmunds.com.

Go to edmunds.com and I'm sure we could all find a few negative reviews for the Maxima. No car in the world is perfect and people love to b!tch.

ChrisMan287 Jan 28, 2009 06:25 AM

4th gen FTMFW.

max ride 41 Jan 28, 2009 06:28 AM

that uk max is the ugliest thing ive ever seen. frickin interior looks like someone puked on it, o, the car runs on petrol and right hand side drive. get real, glad i live in the usa!!!

Nopike Jan 28, 2009 07:55 AM

Bad - Soggy handling and a generally baggy drive. 3.0V6 likes a drink"

I've had my Maxima for 11 years and think it's a great car. I did got the SE model because it has a firmer suspension than the other models. The GLE and the GXE(?) were not firm enough and I did not like them. Although I think that the suspension on those other models can be easilly improved.

NISSANMAXIMA91 Jan 28, 2009 08:52 AM

The only way I can justify "it likes a drink" is that he is probably comparing it to their "normal" cars. things along the lines of Geo's and the like. Tiny stuff. But here, we think 27 mpg is great, and considering where we've come from it is. I wouldnt trade anything in the world for my 2 Maxima's, unless it was a mint 4th gen with 2,000 miles on it and with a VLSD :wall:

4DRSpeed Jan 28, 2009 09:59 AM

LOL brits! I haven't had any major issues with mine. My old one (which my brother has now) has had its issues recently but its too be expected with 200K+. My buddy picked up a 95 5spd thing looked immaculate. Inside was completely spotless seemed like a great car.

Turns out this thing is a lemon. Every window regulator went out except for one. It's only a matter of time for the last one to go. Starter is shot. Car drinks coolant like no tomorrow but can't find any leaks. Brakes are gone, CV axle is going out, clutch was completely toasted not too long ago. Fix about 4 things and another 4 things go wrong with it. He still didn't seem too care cause he enjoys the car, but now with the starter going out and the coolant keeps disappearing he's about had it with the car.

cargnome Jan 30, 2009 04:50 PM

tell me SE is better quality than that one hah

Jin Metsuo Jan 30, 2009 06:34 PM

fook a honest john..finds a lemon and loses his mind he probably manically inclined!

riccohou Jan 30, 2009 07:07 PM

damned bloaks. lol

i love my maxima. its THE most reliable car i ever owned. it doesnt die!! it took out an acura integra and a 07 trailblazer and only engine problem i had was i needed a new oil filter. try that in a civic, it wont be that pretty :D

Xfactor22 Jan 30, 2009 08:04 PM

i'd buy a 4th gen after reading that, it really didnt pursuade me otherwise. a long time ago i only wished i would own a 4th gen, now it is real and i am loving every second of it.
