Code P 1492 need help.

I have a code that stays on its a P 1492 which the scanner said Battery temp. sensor high Voltage, dont make sense to me. But what I have found on here is that its a Purge control valve Selnoid valve, where is the purge control valve? Its a 98 max.

It's mounted right near the vacuum gallery, to the right of the stock intake resonator. It will be inboard of the MAP/BARO SSV.

Is it a little black mushroom looking thing with 3 vaccum lines coming from it? I also read that it was in the back fender well by the charcoal canister.

Don't know if I'd call it a 'mushroom' thing, but yes, it's got 3 vac lines on it. According to the '98 FSM, its location is as I stated above.

To elaborate a little more, there are two solenoid valves mounted right beside the transmission fluid dipstick. If you're standing in front of the car, the valve on the right (outboard side) with a brown electrical connector is the MAP/BARO solenoid valve. The one on the left (inboard side) with a gray electrical connector is the purge control solenoid valve. You can tell which solenoid valve is which because the MAP/BARO solenoid valve has an easy-to-see vacuum hose running to the MAP/BARO sensor mounted right behind the radiator.

Edit: the electrical connector is gray on a 97. Might be black on a 98.

Man I must have been out of the game to long, yall lost me with all the abbreviations, do you have any pics? I replaced the mushroom thing but its up by the T/B that sits in a little metal clip but I dont think what I replaced and what you are talking about are the same thing.

ATTappman 03-06-2009 05:41 AM

I think the "mushroom thing" you're talking about is the EVAP canister purge control valve itself. It sits right beside the adjusting nuts for the throttle/cruise control cables. It also has three vacuum hoses connected to it. But in your original post we thought you were asking about the purge control solenoid valve, which is a different part. The solenoid valve controls the vacuum signal to the purge control valve. The two work together. If the solenoid valve fails, the purge control valve won't work either.

I drive a 97, and the 97 FSM doesn't mention a P1492 code. The short description of the code I could find on the web for P1492 on a 98 didn't specify whether the code indicates a problem with the purge control valve itself, or with the purge control solenoid valve. However if the description mentions "voltage" then it's not likely to be the mushroom thing, since it's got no electrical connections to it. Seems like it's more likely to be the solenoid valve. You could call it the "matchbox thing with an electrical connector."

Downloading and reading the EC section of the service manual (see pmohr's sig) would really help you.

It is indeed for the solenoid valve.

The FSM shows P0443, but it's P1492.

So did the code change from P0443 on a 1997 model to P1492 on a 1998 model, and Nissan didn't update the FSM? Or can all 4th gens throw both codes? I thought I remember somebody posting about a P0443.

I couldn't find your CEL decoder link in the stickies last night. I'll look again.

How the heck do you know this? Was there a TSB, or did you learn by experience? When you know about all the misprints and errors are in the FSM, that's pretty impressive.

It used to be a sticky itself, but it's in this thread now: http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...first-cel.html

http://forums.maxima.org/6595897-post7.html

Also in my sig.

As you can see, 0807 was P0443 in '97, but P1492 in '98 (even though they didn't change the text).

P1492 isn't a valid code for '97 (or any other year), '98 only.

1997:

vs 1998:

Most of what I learned re: codes was making that CEL decoder, as I went through each DTC page of each FSM, and entered all the data by hand. Which reminds me, I really need to normalize naming schemes in there, as you can see for 0807 in '97 vs '98.

maxed98 03-06-2009 03:44 PM

Well ATTappman you are right on the mushroom thing but I'm searching now to see if I can find the purge control valve.

maxed98 03-06-2009 04:44 PM

Found it thanks alot guys.

Galager 05-12-2009 10:21 AM

Didn't want to start another thread, I have codes 0807 and 0705 on my '97. Here's pics, which is the solenoid valve that might cause this? The brown thingie?

http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/1620/underhood1.th.jpg

Does anyone have a part number for that?

First you have to do some diagnostics to find out if it's the CPCV, or the CPCSV. The 0807 code could be either.

Galager 05-12-2009 11:06 AM

^^So the CPCV is the black "mushroom" thing and the CPCSV is the brown thing?

Using terms like 'mushroom thing', who knows.

CPCSV:

I think I have an extra of the brown part

I wouldn't normally, just trying to stick to the theme of the thread!

Galager 05-13-2009 08:53 AM

Thank you for the diagram and the help. I removed and checked both parts and they were fine. It turns out they had both been replaced already by the previous owner in an attempt to fix this error code as well as the entire fuel filler neck and gas cap.

Any other ideas? I'm stumped and hate to ditch a perfectly good car because it can't pass inspection for something stupid.
