STS's comparison
pacesetter or smc short shifter?
are they both made by the same company or is their slight differences.. where can i buy the pacesetter and where can i buy the smc for cheap.. thanks and is their a difference in notchiness? |
I heard they are both made by the same company, but somebody needs to confirm this... I ordered my Pacesetter for $70 shipped from carparts.com like 2 weeks ago, but it still hasn't come. I need to call them or something. Custommaxima.com has the SMC for $110... I think any shortshifter put into a maxima will be notchy, but the Redline fluid helps a little...

Carparts sends the order in to Pacesetter who fills them directly. Just be patient, it takes about 3 weeks and is well worth the wait for both the product quality and price you get. With the money you save, get a good screw down shift knob...
I wouldn't bother calling carparts. They have no idea when the product ships or what the status is. |

Preferably an auto parts store so I don't have to pay for shipping. Thanks for any info. |
I have the OBX-R Maxima SSK. I think it's similar to the old Courtesy Nissan part. Very simple. It seems to work ok. I sometimes miss shifts, but it may just take some more getting used to. It's definitely stiffer, and the throw has definitely been shortened, I'd say by about 20-30%.
You'll probably get rattles from you heat shield though. Because the SSK makes the pivot sit higher, the actuating arm is lower, wanting to share the same space with the heatshield that goes between the cat and the car. I haven't figured it out yet, so it still rattles, but I think through creative shaping of the heatshield, I can get rid of it. Just haven't had time. -V |
Thats why you leave the heatshield off when you install it ;)

yeah thats true but i heard of some people leaving it off and not having any problems with it so far...
cuz i heard its damn hard to bang it into the correct shape so it fits around the STS... i dunno |

It'll just take more tries! Belive me. -V |
