I heard they are both made by the same company, but somebody needs to confirm this... I ordered my Pacesetter for $70 shipped from carparts.com like 2 weeks ago, but it still hasn't come. I need to call them or something. Custommaxima.com has the SMC for $110... I think any shortshifter put into a maxima will be notchy, but the Redline fluid helps a little...

Redline helps even on your stock shifter because everything is much smoother. I have heard mainly nothing but complaints from carparts.com. Good luck.

Carparts sends the order in to Pacesetter who fills them directly. Just be patient, it takes about 3 weeks and is well worth the wait for both the product quality and price you get. With the money you save, get a good screw down shift knob...

I wouldn't bother calling carparts. They have no idea when the product ships or what the status is.

yeah youre exactly right. I just called them, they said that their computer is showing that Pacesetter has not shipped it yet, and they have no idea when it will (they said it takes 3-4 weeks). Its been 2 weeks already, so hopefully I'll get it soon.

On a related note, where is a good place to buy Redline MT90? Preferably an auto parts store so I don't have to pay for shipping. Thanks for any info.

I have the OBX-R Maxima SSK. I think it's similar to the old Courtesy Nissan part. Very simple. It seems to work ok. I sometimes miss shifts, but it may just take some more getting used to. It's definitely stiffer, and the throw has definitely been shortened, I'd say by about 20-30%.

You'll probably get rattles from you heat shield though. Because the SSK makes the pivot sit higher, the actuating arm is lower, wanting to share the same space with the heatshield that goes between the cat and the car. I haven't figured it out yet, so it still rattles, but I think through creative shaping of the heatshield, I can get rid of it. Just haven't had time.

Thats why you leave the heatshield off when you install it ;)

I thought about that.... but that cat sure get's HOT...!

I figure the heat sheild is there for a reason and so things don't melt!

Oh yeah... before I bolted the exhaust back up after the install, I had to put everything together, and bolt the heatshield back up to see if it hit anything a total of 5 times... so FAR!!! I finally got it to not hit on anything. However, sometimes when the exhaust system vibrates, it will vibrate enough so that the cat hits the heat shield... only sometimes though.

BTW, if you need to whack the heatshield, whack the sh*t out of it rubber hammber... whack it like you got ****ed at it... small whimpy hits won't get you anywhere... It'll just take more tries!
Belive me.

what is the difference in the shifters is it just shorter
like most pacesetter shifters or does it have different
geometry? how much shorter is it?

thanks

Some probably just cut down the shifter. Since I have the OBX-R kit, I can only comment on that unit. The OBX-R unit is actually slightly longer the the factory unit, but the length added is below the console, below the pivot where you don't really see it. The shift knob istself is about stock, which I prefer so that my elbow doesn't hit the center console/arm rest when I shift...
