seafoam - no smoke - wtf?
I just sucked in about a quarter bottle of seafoam through the brake booster line and was expecting a smoke show like everyone else has seen, but there was absolutely no smoke coming out from my tail pipe, or anywhere else for that matter. Did I do something wrong? I'm about 99.999% sure I got the right line. I sucked the seafoam in slowly over a course of about 5 minutes, is this too slow? I'm letting the car sit for 15 minutes now before I take her out for a spirited drive.
I recently failed smog with high NOx levels at 15mph, so I cleaned out my egr guide tube. The guide tube was completely clogged to the point where I sprayed carb cleaner in one end, and it took more than 10 seconds to start dripping out the other end. I also cleaned off whatever I could reach inside the plenum from the TB and IACV holes.
Also, please no posts about whether or not seafoam actually works/kills your o2 sensors, etc. I think we've all seen enough of those battles.

That's the first thing I can think of, it was put into the wrong area.
OR, you didn't let it sit long enough.
My 97 smoked BAD, my 99 smoked much less, but still smoked. As far as killing sensors goes, I do seafoam every 30k. Never had issues.

Thanks everyone, for your responses.
The car did start smoking after I started her up again. But again, not quite as much smoke as I've heard from other people. I didn't really notice any smoke after the first minute or so of driving.
Anyway, I did this whole routine twice, quarter of a bottle each time through the break booster line, turned off the engine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, drove hard for 15 minutes. Both times, same result: no smoke while sucking in the seafoam; smoke for the first minute of driving.
I'm pretty sure I put the seafoam in the right area. I watched dr-rjp's video. I didn't use deep creep, but at the very least the video clearly identifies the break booster line.
Yes, the engine sputtered whenever I did not have the brake booster line covered.

Yah, I figured I was fine when I saw smoke after starting the car up again. I read stories of other people clouding up their neighborhoods while pouring the seafoam, so I was initially expecting the same.

you gotta follow the directions. maintain about a 1500ish idle, this is key. pour, only slow enough to keep from stalling, about 1/3 of the bottle through the brake booster line. it's the big hose on top-right (left from front view) of the uim. then quickly pour enough to stall the engine. let sit for 10-15 min, then drive till there's no more smoke.
easiest way to measure is to pour the appropriate amount into a dry, clean old water bottle or something similar and use that to administer the sea-foam.

Seafoam'd mine for first time last night. Bout 100K since EHing the manifold. Choking smoke at the end of sucking the fluid before I could kill the engine. 8min soak then drove (can says 5min) - minimal smoke thereafter. I did hand clean both plenums, TB, EGR, and IACV a week ago. Might try the PCV port next time. No considerable improvement in idle or throttle.
Do use a short cup as the booster hose it pretty short and might not reach a tall bottle easily. Keep the revs up otherwise the engine stalls easily. I picked a rainy night at dusk to mask possible smoke.

Hey I did seafoam on my 00max today. I forgot to let the car sit for 10-15min after sucking in seafoam, but rev the engine immediately. Still a lot of smoke coming out. I have to say it's now running like a new car, really smooth.

Wondering if I should try this to give mine a good cleaning. I used it in the fuel but haven't done this procedure. It's been sitting for a long time an is now smoking pretty badly. I'm just nervous about blowing seals since it's not been driven in about 2 years. My go to old school mechanic back home told me don't go looking for problems you don't have else they'll find you.
