rotor rust did'nt dissapear after driving all day????

so, my front rotors are 4 and a half years old and all of a sudden there's patches of rust that wont go away even with alot of driving. the drivers side is the worst, i looked at it after 30 miles of driving and still patches of rust. they got small, but i also noticed that the brakes were making a grinding noise and vibrating when coming from 80 to a stop. slow speeds arent as bad. caliper sticking??? ceramic pads maybe have rust on them??? ideas, suggestions, brakes still work fine, just the grinding and rust.

Hey were neighbors!

wai18 Sep 29, 2009 09:15 PM

i think the caliper is not working.

FallenOne Sep 29, 2009 09:36 PM

Well.. try brake torquing it and see what kind of results you get, either the car starts to roll cause you've got no grab on the front rotors or you'll have one wheel spin or ect..

w8lifter21 Sep 30, 2009 09:33 AM

Are the patches of rust randomly spread around the rotor or is it in one spot maybe where the pads were resting while the car was sitting? I know I have see that on my 300zx before. After I drive for a while, there is still a hint of where the pads were positioned on the rotor

max ride 41 Sep 30, 2009 03:11 PM

yeah, there all over but more so in a big patchy spot. it has gotten smaller and they worked better today.:gotme: maybe random rust, only sat for a day and a half, go figure.

Yep.....I think your caliper is not working. Mine has done that on and off (a rear), so I'm replacing them both (shoulda done it last year when we did the pads/rotors). It could be seized guide pins too, but the OP's brakes are not functioning 100%. On mine, it will be just fine (swept area shiny), and then, next thing you know only 1/2 of that area is shiny and the rest gummy-looking. Then normal again.

I think its a hanging guide pin or piston. get some reman'ed calipers. They come will all the hardware including the pins. Prostop rears are 45 and fronts are 60 after you turn your cores in to Pep Boys. You can get a rebuild kit too I think, at Advance.

nsnrider Oct 1, 2009 05:58 PM

get rotors turned...grease the guide pins and check to make sure everything is in working condition.

Check your pads. I don't know if you'll be able to tell but if one is unusually thick then we can blame the caliper for sure.

might need resurfacing

ok, took the max into my new tech, rotors are shot. pads on drivers side unevenly worn, he thinks thats because of the roder being worse on that side. so, called up autopartswarehouse.com and ordered new brembo's for the front and ebs red stuff pads to go on there as well. no sense in trying to marry up 1 year old pads to new brembo's. 169.72 for pads and roders shipped!!! pics when i get em!!! :woot:

they are not rust spots. IT is rot. Sorry to say but the Face of the rotor is rotting away. The nickel like shine. It is gay I know but this is what to be expected when you buy rotors off this site. Same thing happened to me then I bought real rotors. Not Fake brembos like 100% of this site has.

first off, the rotors are from 5 years ago when i bought the car, and second, im aware that the shine wears off when a rotor where's down but i dont know what your referring to as far as brembo's from this site??? if you had an issue, maybe you should've taken it up with the seller of said rotors at that time. dont leave negative crap like that in my thread.

JSMax Oct 3, 2009 07:40 PM

what made you choose the ebc red stuff over the green stuff maxride41?
just wondering

cry me a river? It isn't negative at all. i didnt act like a jackass like u are to me. and its stating facts. Oh and about the owner of my "Brembo" brakes. His account was banned.

what does that have to do with my thread??? did i state that i got them from here??? no, i got them else where, READ b4 posting man. if he's banned, what does it matter now??? JSmax, i was told that they're a step up and are improved from last years red stuff pads. better coating, less dust, better break in on the rotors.

hey i live near you as well. do you have abs? i didnt look at your pics but i still have rust after driving far, but its because my abs brain wont push enough fluid to my driver side rear wheel..

i did'nt have pics man, just spotted rusty rotors. they where my front rotors too man, slider pins where sticking a bit on drivers side as well probably cause the rotors where bad and the pads were'nt grabbing. i need a new caliper, maybe.

max ride 41 Oct 7, 2009 01:19 PM
