97 maxima wont start in cold weather?

help my 97 maxima wont start when the weather is cold, starts fine in warm weather?anybody had this problem?

Could possibly be a old dieing battery. Cold weather is a real test for an old battery. How old is your battery? You are lucky to get 4-5 years out of a battery.

could be new battery time, or when i had a really really worn out fuel filter i had a hard time starting her up in the cold, got a new fuel filter and she starts like a charm

Engine coolant temp sensor. Or if the car starts up and then dies, it could be a dirty throttle body.

omoran2958 12-09-2009 04:28 PM

http://forums.maxima.org/picture.php...ictureid=11747 i have changed ......crank angle sensor both
coolant temperature sensor
intake air temperature
cam shaft position sensor

Throttle Body cleaning worked me... I spy grease spots on your nice driveway.

By the way, problem threads are so much nicer with illustrations, even if the illustrations have little to do with the problem. There should be an illustration requirement when starting a thread....:p

Battery, Starter, Cam Sensor, Ignition Switch. Thought it was due to Battery so once I had that replaced still had a Cold Start up issue, then i replaced the Starter that lasted for awhile but then problem came back, then once i replaced both the Cam Sensor and Ignition Switch, starts up even in 20degree weather

http://forums.maxima.org/picture.php...ictureid=11748 I finally got it, the wiring harnes on the crankshaft position sensor had a open circuit......code p0335(cranshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction)

I had 3 different types of starting problems with my old 96 maxima.
(starter, air flow meter, engine fuse)
now I got a 98 max that I bought in april. so the weather was warm in LA up until now.
in the mornings its about 50 degrees and when I start the car the rpm would drop way too low and bounce back. but today it didnt come back up and the engine turned off.
today I wanted to order a new fuel filter but I thought I should ask u guys if anyone knows where i should start checking first.

more info about the car:
battery has a sticker 5/05 and I put in a system 2 months ago.
short ram intake. (either messed up the throttle body or the air flow meter?)

cashoit 12-15-2009 05:06 AM

Before u start replacing parts...start cleaning MAF, TB, IACV tubing. If u have a multimeter check sensor resitivity

cashoit 12-16-2009 05:45 AM

Starter might be goin bad too. I hear the symptoms can last for a while then one day the starter finally jus craps out.

omoran2958 12-16-2009 09:04 AM

try the crank position sensor, on the botton next to the oil filter and the harness my 97 max did not start in cold weather changed the sensor.i found out the wire harness was not getting any ground.i used a digital multimeter test the conections ....http://forums.maxima.org/picture.php...ictureid=11743

With the battery date that old, it'd probably be best to get a new battery for the hell of it, too.

Sorry to drag this back to the top and also off topic but I have to ask, how the HELL do you not get pulled over for these lights?
I imagine most regular members here may not like your lights but I find them very nice. Really cool look. Not sure about the fogs but..they're not awful. Awesome headlights though and i like the turn signal lights.

omoran2958 01-21-2010 07:43 AM

i drove from los angele to texas and to atlanta and back and never got pulled over....i didnt liked my fogs either so i got the stock fogs..........:Dhttp://i806.photobucket.com/albums/y...a/100_6345.jpg
