altima to maxima 5 spd

I've found a guy who's got a wrecked Altima he wants to part out. He said the tranny is a RS5F50A. It looks like that car has the KA24DE in it. Would I need a new bell housing to bolt this to a VQ30DE? Also are there many compatible parts between the models (shift linkage, hydraulic clutch system)?

are the two even compatible. I would think the flywheel on the maxi is larger and therefore the tranny too

The bellhousing is definitly different, but may or may not swap between a VQ one. I'm pretty sure the master & slaves are the same, clutch lines would probably be different, linkage would probably be different lengths, shifter trim is definitely different, shift lever & bracket/bushing might be the same, shift **** will work. Pedals, maybe but don't know. I'm pretty sure the axles are the same.

Keep in mind you're in uncharted territory & what I posted above is based solely on looking at them in junkyards & when I had an altima that I was debating putting a VQ30 into. Your best bet is to find a 5-speed Maxima not altima.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The guy said he paid 2200 for a rebuild about 12000 miles ago and its really local so that's what I've got going for me. I'm thinking that since he is just trying to part it out, I could get a good deal and accumulate the other parts later.

So you are thinking that the bell housing might not be removable from the transmission case? An RS5F50A is an RS5F50A, right? The drawing on courtesyparts.com would lead me to believe it is removable.

I know a Maxima donor car would be ideal, but this Altima caught my eye, and I was curious. I'm probably at least going to go check it out.

Well it turns out this guy has a 99 Maxima also. It's high mileage, around 220k, but he said the tranny was rebuilt 10k miles ago. Whether I believe him is another story. I looked at the car and it has front end damage from a tree, but he said it was driven home like that because the accident happened not too far away. He wants to sell me the entire car for 350. I'm thinking I want to see the tranny fluid first before I buy it. Any other suggestions?
