What's Going on? (starter related)

My '95 SE is quickly approaching 200,000 miles and she has been reliable....

I bought the car with service records and I think the previous owner also is a member of this forum.

I was looking thru all the service records and noticed that the starter was replaced quite a few times... 3 times before me. And I replaced it once.

And the car is currently getting another starter replacement as we speak, lol. I have owned the car for almost 3 years now and the previous starter I had put in lasted me about a year and a half- 2 years..

Which leads me to ask the question;

What's up with the starter???? Is it really a starter as the root of the problem or is there something else that I should be more worried about?

its jus the starter man...they wear out if they not re-wind good. But there is a lifetime warranty on them so it shouldnt cost u thing to get a new one

My previous starter was dealer installed....I wonder if those qualify for lifetime replacement at pep boys chain store?

It's usually the solenoid that goes out on them. Not sure if you can buy one separate though is the kicker.

you can buy the solenoid separately. just good luck finding someone who has it.

So I had the starter replaced, and voila! ....it still doesn't start.... the guys at pep boys are clueless as to what is going on, other than a faulty wierd smell that comes through the car as the car is trying to start.

Could it be a short?

it could be a short.
BTW, when you go to replace the starter, tell whomever you are buying it from that you have a 98. Late 96 on up got a better starter than 95/Early 96 did.
