HELP! Just ran over a curb, popped 2 tires, leaking tranny fluid

Well I was going about 50 and jumped a curb tonight... The left side tires popped and rims are bent badly. Pulled into a parking lot and saw/smelled tranny fluid leaking out.

What else do yall think got messed up in this stunt? Its too dark to look now, but I'm wondering if the axles and other front end stuff could have been severely damaged from a hit like this.. What do yall think?
Its a '99 I30
I'll post pics in the morning.

Damn we've been getting a bunch of these threads lately... how the hell did you manage to pull that one off?

Hmm sounds like you may have pulled a muscle (axle) and that could cause trans fluid to leak. Also possible to have punctured the trans pan.

You didnt provide enough info for the answers you're wanting...
Is your alignment off?
Is it making any sounds?
Is it even drivable?

LOL, damn i should have taken pics at the parking lot.. It was a pool of tranny fluid like a cow had been slaughtered and the drivers side front and rear wheels were popped so it isnt drivable at all. I didnt try starting it. Hopefully day light will shed more answers upon what is damaged and where the blood pool came from ( drivers side of underneath car)

Goomz 03-09-2010 09:01 PM

possible sub frame...entire or most of suspension shot...steering rack and pinion...motor may have been pushed/pulled out of alignment, need pics.

If you dont mind... how?

HandsonMaxima. 03-09-2010 09:11 PM

your going to need new bumpstops cause a hit like that destroys them<---i know this.
but johns response is the most likely.
+steering rack is possibly ripped apart after that.
how high was this curb?? i can understand one tire but did you run headlong into a slanted curb?

HandsonMaxima. 03-09-2010 09:14 PM

after pics im thinking different
im guessing you bottomed out and ripped a hole in your trannys pan. judging from the collection of oil right below it thats my hypothesis.

speed3000gt 03-09-2010 09:24 PM

Unfamiliar road at night and not paying attention.. It was a service road with an on ramp to the highway.. well the morons who made the lane didnt just let it go on the on ramp, they made it look like it was an option to get on the on ramp or continue straight.. Kind of like this fancy paintbrush drawing from an Aerial view:
I'm the light gray arrows, green arrows is the big highway...
And now that i think about it, its my fault because those yellow lines on the right of me was actually a solid white line.. dammit.

i think i would break down and cry a little bit if something ever happened to my car before doing anything else. after i'm done sobbing i'd take pics and whatnot.

sorry to hear bout the unfortunate outcome :/ you should have that curb removed. after peeing on it.

edit: imagine you noticed the curb a bit too late and drifted into it instead of just riding over it? eeeeeekkk.. i've seen what kind of ugly **** happens when a car hits the curb sideways and it sucks lol

So true so true,

I can sympathize with the OP. When u in a diff city and its late at night, the roads look super weird. I have been a number of places with rentals caught driving on the wrong side of the road or goin down a one way street. When its dark u jus cant see and if u new to the area u jus dont kno.

Sorry boout the car man, looks like u either tore a hole in the tranny pan or somehow suspension dislodge from the tranny. Sucks

1997MAXZ 03-10-2010 05:51 AM

so if you wrecked the left side, you turned right instead of left to get on the highway????

1992maximase30 03-10-2010 06:29 AM

i say the trans pan has a hole in it.
i wouldnt be surprised if you replaced the pan, tires and the car would be fine.
we all make these kind of mistakes.

that sucks. i once ran into a ditch from an exit off a highway...and the cop that came ( cuz i couldnt get out) said "oh yeah...this happens a lot here"...like nigga then put some reflectors or a speed limit or slow sign there!

and i love this "the peoples court"-ish type of illustration..GUILTY!!!

hope the car still runs

Half totaled

Maximum I 03-10-2010 08:19 AM

i say trans pan, axles and possibly control arms and tie rods

bryan163 03-10-2010 08:38 AM

From your pics, we can't see the trans pan or the axle seal area. you might want jack it up and get a better angle. Would you know a damaged pan or pulled axle if you saw it?

ajcool2 03-10-2010 08:41 AM

You most likely have a nice hole in your trans pan.

speed3000gt 03-10-2010 10:11 AM

Hey ill post pics in a few, but while im outside taking them,, can yall post up which newer infiniti / nissan rims fit our cars nicely? There are some '03 G35 17" wheels available for $250 that I might pick up if they will fit well.

NIGHTMAREuki 03-10-2010 10:33 AM

damn, it sux. once i hit a curb too but while braking at like 10degrres to it, 2 years later had to change the wheel bearing and strut
maxima can take a beating, one of my friends hit a speed bump @ 35 ad left the tranny behind lol, it was in ~98 camry

ImmaSquashYou 03-10-2010 10:36 AM

yup, i ripped one in my 98 i30. went to the gym and then saw a big *** puddle outside when i came back out. Apparently i was too low and **** something, had a similar hold just like that on mine. Don't drive it till you get it fixed cause if you try, your tranny will take a dump on you. Don't ask me how i know. as car as the suspension, Not sure what you really messed up. But if you hit it at 50 mph, chances are that you need quite a few parts. Replace as necessary first tho. Get a new tranny pan, get new tires. Jack the car up and put it in drive, anything weird? It nothing, put the car down and see how it drives. Can't really hurt anything else at this point. Do the wheels look like they're closer to the rear fender? If tahts the case, you prob need new control arm.

SiathLinux 03-10-2010 11:34 AM

I had a tourist turn into my lane (ie aiming at me), I had to hit the curb or hit them - I had a 79 Celica Coupe (22RE, 5MT, RWD), trashed both right tires, the tie rod, the strut brace (under strut brace), anti-sway bar, the strut, and both rims...
I gotta say it sucks, especially on a nice ride where you end up fixing it no matter the cost...
Good luck getting it all straightened out.

speed3000gt 03-11-2010 06:33 AM

I took the pan off yesterday evening, it doesn't look like theres a gasket on it though or maybe i'm blind... To those of you that have replaced the tranny pan, did you use any gasket sealant or just a gasket from the part's store?

Also, I'm considering to take it to get welded instead of getting a new one... anything wrong with that?

Thanks

HandsonMaxima. 03-11-2010 06:38 AM

...yes? you need a new gasket period, unlesss you want to dump money into fluid. no dont get it welded because 2/3 of a chance it is bent reguardless and wont form a seal.

1992maximase30 03-11-2010 07:06 AM

well i used gasket sealant.
you can try the junkyard. but the junkyard in chicago here they poke a hole into the pan.
then if you plan on welding you should just j/b weld it yourself.
IT WORKS.
my 1st tranny mysteriously ended up with a hole in the differential a buddy of mine came over to j/b weld it.
all was good.
and trans fluid would always splash against this area with the car running so i knew this worked for sure.

[s3] 03-11-2010 07:34 AM

Don't use JB weld.

Weld it up nice with new mild steel, sand, then primer, and a few coats of rust proof paint.

mas324 03-11-2010 08:17 AM

I know your tranny pan is broken and since it's broken and both left wheels are popped, Your probaly damaged you inner/outer tierods and your camber bolts. The rear is probally a look bearing from what I think. Don't drive it because your tranny will take a sh*t on you.

speed3000gt 03-11-2010 10:45 AM

I'm thinking about putting these G35 wheels on the car, but will i need spacers or anything? If they are a direct mount on fit, I think Im going to get them.

cashoit 03-11-2010 10:50 AM

i think the g35 fit no problem

speed3000gt 03-11-2010 03:16 PM

Well I had to cheap out and get some new 15"s instead of used 17"s with bald tires..
I got these 15's put on with two new tires for $300... ugly huh!!
Im just glad the car is drivable again

Nice! Now the car is drivable again! Yay! The rims: meh. Is the tranny pan fixed though?

speed3000gt 03-11-2010 09:41 PM

Yeah this muffler place did a good job welding it.. They didnt charge anything so I gave it a shot and the weld looked really good.. I haven't gone underneath the car to see if its seeping through the gasket or anything, but will check tomorrow... Car drives good, could use a little alignment but doesnt wobble or shake at highway speeds.

What an ordeal,, think i'm going to give up contacts and save up for lasik this year.

Thanks for everyones advice/opinions
