Vision Motorworks shift knob review (don't buy)

I got a Vision Motorworks shift knob on ebay from autodinamics, $22 shipped. Seemed like a good way to replace my worn out knob with a decent looking knob, for less than the cost of buying an OEM knob from http://www.courtesyparts.com/ for $65 (or from my local dealer for $99). FYI, courtesy has the 2001 anniversary knobs, same price as 95-99 knobs, if you like that look better.

The knob itself is good quality, and has the same threads (10x1.25mm) as the OEM shift knob. But it doesn't fit our shifters well at all. When installed, it's about 1/2" taller than the OEM knob (makes it into a long throw shifter, lame). Also, the bottom of the knob doesn't go all the way down to the shifter boot, instead it stops about 1 1/4" higher than boot. If you're handy fabricating stuff I guess you could make something to cover up the gap between the boot and knob, but would be hard to make it look good.

Just save your money and buy an OEM knob from courtesy.

My Aftermarket knob sits high too. Makes my throws while shifting gears wicked long.

Still, I love the way it looks. I was able to get the shift boot around the base of the knob and thread it all up. Looks very clean and professional.

There is a guy in maryville TN that can fabricate shift boots and ebrake boots out of a carbon fiber fabric looking stuff. I got it in my car and it looks great. Im sure he could make one that is a little taller to make it work. Also, there are shorth throw shifters on ebay for about 35 bucks that make the throw 60% shorter and work great. I highly recomend them.

If your boot is not reaching the bottom of your knob, all you need is a piece of rubber hose. The stock shifter has these two prongs that stick out that holds up the boot by its rubber neck that is attached to the top of the boot from the inside.

Take your boot off and get a piece of heater hose( electric tape will work too) and cut it to the size of the gap, then slide it over your shifter lever before putting the boot back on so that it acts as a riser and the boot will sit higher on the shifter to close the gap.

Basically, if there is a 1 inch gap between the boot and the knob, get a 1 inch piece of something to put under the boot to close the gap.

When my car was an auto, I had on a razo stick shift auto knob and Im sure it was taller than the stock handle.
