Replacement Parts just aren't what they used to be...
Replacement Parts just aren't what they used to be. I remember the great names like Bosch, Airtex, Beck Arnley and Hecht KYB and Boge and Sachs.
Now I see a new generation of suppliers. Who are Altrom, Cardone, Hi Tec, Rite Fit and all these other outfits these days that make $32 dollar water pumps and $98 compresssors and $72 alternators? Even Bosch isn't the same. Recently my new $63 Bosch water pump failed only 1 month after I put it in. NAPA is carrying these junk brands! Beware what you buy! Maybe go to the junkyard and get something off of a younger car! |
Or buy from Courtesy, there's also DaveB. Especially a water pump. I got mine for 150$ about 8 years ago from a local Nissan dealer. Not a bad price for a Genuine Nissan part, 8 years ago.

yeah man, u get what u pay for. Some stuff u can cheap on, but pump or alternator...naw man.
Duralast a good brand too Never had a problem with their stuff. |
which brand of wp would you guys recommend? ac delco or oem(where from?), or something else?

I've had Cardone Axles for 5 years without a single issue while the Duracrap axles break like a hymen. As mentioned, stick to OEM aka DaveB or Courtesypart.com And for the guy who asked about the AC Delco WP...wtf? why would you put a GM part on a Maxima? Its like getting Motorcraft, AC Delco, or Champion sparkplugs for a Nissan |
^^chill the f out, man. i didn't know who was behind ac delco. i just heard they were producing some quality products. and what kind of argument is it anyway? i just bought a belt made by ac delco for nissan (yes!), what's the big deal? is it made for gm? is it not gonna get the job done? gtfo

Second, I'd hate to use something from a company that specializes in other cars parts which are known to fail. Yes, they are made for Maxima but why not get the good ****? Surely you're not paying the lowest price for AC Delco. I'm not knocking them on use for GM cars. It's like having a plastic surgeon or a gyno perform open heart surgery on you, yes they are doctors but thats not their specialty. Would you feel comfortable with a OB GYB give you a heart transplant? I know I wouldn't. I know my analogy isn't the best example given one is a life threatening situation but some of us actually rely on our cars. Do you see Nissan OEM parts being made for ****in chevy or pontiac? sheesh they must really be hurting for money when an OEM GM parts manufacturer is making parts for other cars. Maybe you should chill, I'm sure other members here would agree on the use of A/C Delco on a Nissan. And I've been here for far too long for you to tell me to GTFO ;) |
I commented elsewhere about my $118 LCA's (set) about to be installed. Will let everybody know how it all goes, both install, & long haul. We are truly in the 21st century now when it comes to car parts & their origins. Could be anywhere.

i just wasn't expecting anyone to jump out like that. apologize for the choice of words, man. i always thought they were a good brand. i don't think gm owns them per se, but does have a large stake in.

yea but dude you like GM, remember you told me? My cousins 2009 with 9,000 miles has left him stranded 3 times already!
Let me tell you something, I 100% support ColumbianMax and what he said and can vouch for it. Those things are gimmicks to help the shops make money off of you in labor. Yes, they will exchange the part for you but if you don't know how to install them, who loses??? |

Yes, they will exchange the part for you but if you don't know how to install them, who loses??? Anyway he's got about 9,000 miles on it now and he got stranded on his EFFIN birthday at 12am cuz his shifter assembly broke!!! and then a few days later after it was fixed at the dealership, he gets home and he cant get the key out of the ignition, took 4 days for the dealer to get the part. Both him and his sister bought cars around the same time and he's had more trouble and has been stranded than her. Then again, she listened to me and bought a $900 95 GLE fully loaded off a fellow Chicag Nissan Club member ;) |
Parts have definitely gone downhill. Back in 2008, I did all 4 rotors with Nissan OEM, got a discount from nissanparts.net which is now defunct.
Within months, the hats were rusted. On the originals, which were 10 y.o. at the time and NEVER turned, there was nearly no rust on the hats. Even OEM is absolute junk nowadays. The rotors were made in USA--that means some supplier made them for Nissan and they were put into OEM boxes. No better than a $30 rotor that can be had elsewhere, only costing more than double. Got rear calipers too from NAPA. Within days one turned rust orange, the other took about a month. Again, the originals were on the car 11 years, and only mildly rusted. |
