Just succesfully completed 1995-1998 swap

So my rotted out Maxima is now in the junk yard stripped of any part worth anything. And my 1998 Is rippin' down the road. Had to switch the engine sensors, as the part number were all different even if they looked the same. The throttle body,AC compressor I switched alternators although i don't no if it was necessary and power steering pump intake heads block all the same except the fuel rail on the 98 had flat loops ant the end of the fuel rail instead of a inclined loop, my 1995 injectors work just fine Just was proud, thouhgt I would share. Love to hear about other people's swaps. nd what to do next when ya wanna go faster cheap

Kevlo911 08-07-2010 05:53 AM

should of asked first, most of the stuff you swapped wasn't needed. the sensors on the 98 are likely updated ones so keep them just incase.

and congrats!

Congrats on your successful engine swap.
I just had a mechanic do the same to my 95 Max and now I have the engine from a 98. Unfortunately I am having many problems. The engine can't run above 3,500 rpm. It hesitates whenever I hit the gas. I'm not sure what to do or who can help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Also, did you use the 95' engine computer or the 98' ?

Shouldn't the mechanic help you? I'm confused.

That's kinda my thinking too. Instead of scratching your hemmoroids, go give the mechanic grief and misery.

He doesn't know why either guys. I guess I should have put that in my post.

He's doesn't know why this is happening. I can't get info that he doesn't have. I was hoping someone here might be willing to share their knowledge.

The problem with that is that the mechanic that replaced your engine knows an infinite amount more about your specific install than we possibly can. Your problem is just way too vague for a good hypothesis. Now, if you're looking for speculation and conjecture, I'm sure many will fill that need. Is there no other information you can give us?

HELP
I have a 95 Maxima and just had the engine replaced with a 98 Maxima's engine. Now the speedometer doesn't work and engine won't rev above 3,500rpm The 98 engine was in good shape and came from a Maxima that was totaled about 2 months ago. Unlike Speedofsalt32, I still have all of the old sensors and ECM from the 95. The "check engine" light is not on so it seems like the electronics are getting along, but the way it drives says otherwise. Does anyone know if it's the sensors and ECM need to be changed when swapping engines to a later year? Can the ECM be reprogrammed?

Limp home mode. Did you check for codes? Sounds kinda like MAF but IDK.

3 thing that it could be, or a combination.. Throttle Position Sensor, MAF, Tranny in Limp Home Mode.

tyler5619 08-07-2010 09:02 PM

speed sensor and maf. both would throw a CEL though. does your CEL illuminate when you turn the car on? (I.E. turn key to on position, but don't start the car)

if not, you also have a blown/disconnected bulb. if you went to a shady dude, he probably fcuked a bunch of siht up and pulled the bulb so you wouldn't blame him lol

DennisMik 08-07-2010 09:14 PM

Is the CEL on? Have you checked the ECM for codes? Is the ECM the original or is it the one for the 98 engine?

TravisCadello 08-07-2010 09:20 PM

also coolant temp sensor will make it go into limp mode.

I'm not sure what the CEL is and the ECM is the original from the 95
