Can't Get Cat Off, Cat/Y-pipe Bolt Nuts Corroded Away!!
Yeah man, I tried removing the cat today to install new high flow cat and catback system. The bolts that connect the y-pipe 2 the cat are corroded and the nuts are soooo coroded that they crumbled apart when I turned wrench. What the fuuuckkk mannn!!!! I just wanna put this system in like right da fuuck now!!!! Plus the y-pipe in that area by the cat looks like it's got like a year or so left. I might just get a new y cause it's probably gonna fuuckin' break tomorrow when I try to cut nuts/bolts out and separate the pipes. I wanted to wait a little to get HP Y-Pipe but I guess I gotta go cheap for now just to get this job/install done. Any suggestions?

Soak in PB Blaster! And let it sit for a long while. Good luck!

Torch that ****, then replace the hardware.

Stanceworks.....
Impact hammer?? Then replace hardware |
just had em cut my **** up. wasnt worth the pb blaster wait time. on the headers that was another issu. i would just do it all man. bump it ;)

First thing I did was PB blaster the shiit out of them, the nuts crumbled apart(I thought I mentioned that), anyway if I cut I will have to replace the front pipe/y-pipe. I found a front pipe for 55.47 on autoparts warehouse and free ship/handling, so I'm gonna probably have to order that shyt. Dont have an impact hammer, so I think a blow torch will do, that would be the only way to save this pipe but I think I'm gonna just get the front pipe for 55, Fuucckk IITT!!!

just replace my b pipe and muffler, try wd-40, pb-blash, torch, wax, none of them worked, finally use thin cut-off wheel, total 4 days, and have to make sure it will come off first, then order the parts. it is pain.

a blow torch isn't going to do jack if the hardware is as bad as I've seen and is basically structurally non-existent anymore (rather just a big blob of rust). you need an oxy-acetylene cutting torch, a cutoff wheel or a sawzall.

Exactly... when you tackle a repair job you should think like a shop does. They don't want a car there for days and days. So do the time and cost efficient way of cutting the bad part off. The exhaust shop would do it for you too if it's drivable. Problem is you would have to drive it back home and it would be loud. lol |
Angle grinder and a cut-off wheel. Cut the fasteners off. They get so rusted that the hex part of the nut and bolt are physically non-existent.
|
get a torch and heat up the bolts till they start glowing, then tap them out. just be real careful where the torch flame touches :)

I'm gonna order new front pipe today and just drop it down from headers. Then drop the rest of the system all the way back to the muffler. That should make it easier than trying to cut off laying in my driveway while my Biitch is on ramps. I figure I'll just say fuuck it and do the y-pipe now instead of trying to save a few bucks. I'll chatback after to show if I made any progress, good lookin' on da feedback.

In same situation. Got a new y-pipe, but can't put it on yet until I get my other exhaust pieces. There is no threads on any of the bolts, so I am taking whole exhaust off from y-pipe/headers and replacing the whole thing in one go.

Yeh man, I cut bolts off today w/dremel but came to conclusion that I really need/want to change the front pipe. It's badly corroded right by the cat and I felt like I was wasting my time cutting the fuuckin' bolts off. So what I started doing was taking the front pipe stud nuts off and putting never cease on them to make it easier to take apart when y-pipe comes in. It doesn't make sense to have all new HP exhaust and a fuucked up y-pipe. The nuts/bolts came off fairly easy w/some liquid wrench(I find LW works better than PB Blaster), then never ceased them up and back in they went. I'm getting real fuuckin' impatient w/all this waiting shyt!! i just wanna ride my biotch.

I used impact wrench to remove mine while doing the 3.5 swap, compressor $50 used on CL and a cheapo $30 impact wrench was the best $80 I ever spent. Made light work of almost all stubborn hardware.

I see you already tackled job or part of it but this lil guy here does wonders sometimes without the need of power/tools
