4 O2's - I think the swirl vales are exclusive to the 99 Cali.

But ive checked my metal plate under the hood, and im pretty sure that it says my 98 is a cali car. i know the 99calis have 402's...but my 98 only has 302 sensors..whats the difference if any with a pre 99 cal spec from fed spec?

At least pre-cats. One pre-catalytic convertor in each exhaust manifold bank. Also the location of the 02's. It's worth switching to factory fed spec exhaust manifolds if not headers.

Well when the time comes i planned on getting aftermarkets without any precats anyway....so what ur saying is a 98 fed spec has no precats in the y pipe....nice to know....and man am i glad i havent got a 99 cali spec! i had to put a knock sensor in and im glad i didnt have to contend with the stupid swirl valves that come on a 99 cali!!

Just get a y-pipe and done. My car is a 98 Cali too....I've compared it often to my buddy's 99 Cali. Way less complicated. Mine has 3 O2s total, 2 for pre-cats and 1 for the main cat. That's it.

Every A32 4th gen has pre cats, both Cali and fed. Fed doesn't monitor them, Cali does.
