car won't start ?

hi i have 96 maxima gxe with 170,000 miles and this morning tried to start the car and it cranks but it won't start what is the first thing i have to check is there a way to check if its the fuel pump or the timing belt ?

ChrisMan287 Dec 27, 2010 03:07 PM

There's no timing belt..

Check your starter.

jav24 Dec 27, 2010 03:49 PM

i got this codes 0807 and 1302 and 0304 i chech the codes and i don't think this codes are preventing the car to start but let me know if im wrong , also how can i check if its the timing chain.

ChrisMan287 Dec 27, 2010 05:04 PM

I doubt it's the timing chain but here are the codes:

Code: P0443 | Description: EVAP Canister Purge Control Valve/Solenoid Valve
http://boredmder.com/ecucodes/1996/0807.png

Code: P1105 | Description: Manifold Absolute Pressure Switch
http://boredmder.com/ecucodes/1996/1302.png

Code: P0325 | Description: Knock Sensor
http://boredmder.com/ecucodes/1996/0304.png

The knock sensor isn't preventing your car from starting..

what else could it be i check the fuel pump just by hearing the pump when i open the key, is there other thing i can try?

Sounds like you need to remove your CKPS POS and REF sensors and get a multimeter and test them per FSM values.

well this is what i did i step on the gas a few times when trying to turn the key on and i step on the gas all the way in and then turn the key on and it started and i acelerate a couple of times and thats it it been working good since yesterday does someone knows what happend or what should i change so this won't happend again ?

well today the maxima started to cut out when i was at a red light and the RPS started to go up and down then it goes normal again does somebody knows what it is. im thinking the fuel pump does someone knows how to check the fuel pressure ?

jav24 Jan 3, 2011 02:47 PM

is that expensive ?

Buy a fuel pressure guage. I got one for $20 at harbor freight tools. To add in that guage use the same steps as when replacing the fuel filter.

another thing i read the codes 2 days ago and when im driving the check engine light keeps blinking does someone knows why, i check where i turn the screw and everything its fine i can't stop it

jav24 Jan 4, 2011 07:45 PM

when i press on the gas the check engine light starts blinking i just change the spark plugs i have reset the light but it still comes on as soon as i hit the gas

jav24 Jan 5, 2011 05:50 PM

ok i took the car to the autozone and they pull the codes and it came out to be a 1302,0201,0807, and 0304 i check the first 3 and all of them it says its a camshaft position sensor and the 0304 its the knock sensor but which one is the one that it's making the car cut off some times and also i heard a whisile noise on the vacum lines but i can't find which one is the one making the noise . please any help would be apreciated.

do you guys know what code is the one that is making the check engine blink when i press the accelerator the codes are 0201,1302,0807 also what code is the most important of this please help

Dude, people aren't responding to your post because you are not listing out the codes for us to tell you. The codes are in the stickys with the numbers and their respective descriptions. When you get that done, we will tell you which one is causing it to happen.

0201
Diagnostic Trouble Code 0201 indicates a problem with the ignition coil and power transistor
The items to check include
- Harness or connectors (the ignition primary circuit is open or shorted.)
- Power transistor unit built into ignition coil
- Condenser
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF)
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (REF) circuit
1302
MAP/BARO SW Solenoid/Valve
807
The Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve uses an on/off duty cycle to control the flow of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. Diagnostic Trouble Code 1008 is set when the Engine Control Module (the computer) detects an improper signal through the valve. The problem is likely to be in the electrical wiring, harness, or the valve itself.

well here they are i still don't know what is the sensor that is doing my check engine light blink

None of these codes listed here should not make your light flash. Usually if your light is flashing, it means your engine has a misfire. From your previous post where you got the codes read at autozone, did they plug the computer in to read the codes? If so, some of those numbers are incorrect. It should be P1320 and P0304 which P0304 would indicate that cylinder 4 is misfiring from either the coil or defective spark plug or no fuel.

jav24 Jan 8, 2011 09:29 AM

i took the maxima to the autozone and they plug the machine and im still getting the same codes p0443 that means the 0807 p1105 that means 1302 and p0235 thats 0304 and this is the knock sensor . no other codes indicating a misfire, i wonder if it has something to do when i tried to read the codes myself from the ECU and i let the screw in a bad position but i check and its ok .

marco polo Jan 8, 2011 10:12 AM

I had a knock sensor and an o2 sensor. Wouldn't have any power over 3000 rpm I replaced both sensor.

If you did tamper with the screw, turn it to check and turn it back again. If the screw doesn't go back to its normal position, it will keep flashing the CEL. Again, none of those codes will cause the CEL to flash so its definitely the screw on ECU.

ok so i tried to reset the screw and still the same blinking light also now my windows don't work and my door lock doesn't work and the seat buttons don't work so i check the fuses from the underhood and they are all fine and theones on the inside are all ok so what else could it be ?
