KYB GR2's and Tein Springs or KYB GR2's and Stillen Front Lip?!!!

Im looking to change my suspension and the look of my 98 5 speed Maxima SE. Should I go with KYB GR2's and Tein Springs or KYB GR2's and Stillen Front Lip?!!! Also, does anyone have problems scraping their exhaust or the bottom of their car when lowering your car? I have an OBX exhaust and the B-Pipe hangs lower than factory. Let me know your input and advice. Thx in advance:D.

more info would help such as:
h techs or s techs
what your current suspension setup is
what other mods do you have

I had a megan b pipe that hung lower than factory

Sorry, Tein S tech springs. I currently have a stock suspension setup. I have y pipe, high flow cat, custom cai, OBX exhaust, and 03 maxima se wheels.

Has anyone heard, used, or seen these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STAGG...item483e1d8d9c

I would stay away from the stech gr2 combo. There is a good chance they will blow in a few months time. There are a few people who run these, just have to search for the thread

Wow!!! Thx for the info. I will be doing some research on this.

Well, from doing a little research. It looks like this set up is going to be stiff and rough...LOL. I think I might go with Tokico HP Blues or Illumina. Any advice on this setup?

MaxiNone Jan 23, 2011 10:21 AM

I have GR2's (front) with ksport springs and my GR2's are blown. I would say just get ksport springs with ur stock starts since their going to blow anyways. But if your willing to spend money on illuminas with lowering spring I would advise to skip that and just get full coilovers with dame adjustment for a bit more...

I cannot believe that your oem struts are still holding up, especially on those Nashville roads

95Maxed Jan 23, 2011 12:21 PM

GR2's are similar to OEM struts arent they? I'm running KYB AGX's on a Progress drop. Rides so nice, I dont bottom out, but I do scrape my exhaust when coming in and out of driveways sometimes.

I would stay away from S. Techs, those things seem dangerous to me lol

you rode in my car. I wouldnt exactly say they are holding up :p

I know where the good and bad roads are. I steer clear of the bad roads

LMAO, true. Your car rode pretty good considering the roads were bumpy as hell

ChrisMan287 Jan 23, 2011 03:00 PM

If you're gonna lower the car you'll need performance struts like AGX's, Illumina's or Koni's. Don't settle for less and get GR2's or Blue's.

I wouldn't lower the car on S-Techs anyway, they're garbage. You'll be riding on the bump stops all day with those mofos and will probably bottom out/scrape. Quick question; Are you going more for a stiffer ride or something more comfortable like stock?

Ive never bottomed out or scraped unless I was trying to go over something I shouldnt have attempted in the first place. my front lip has some rash on the bottom but thats to be expected when dropped with a lip

You only have 3 options then.

1. Sprint Springs 2.0f 2.0r These are stiff
2. Tein S-Techs 2.2f 1.8r These are soft
3. K Sport 2.2f 2.0r Dunno much about these

MaximaSpd85 Jan 23, 2011 06:19 PM

if you put a lip on the car without dropping itll look freakin weird imo. so i say go for the drop.

RA030726 Jan 23, 2011 08:16 PM

Stick with drops no more than 1.5". Anything over that will cost you more than you think. And by cost I mean money, ride quality, custom parts, alignment, tires, axles, etc. to do it correctly. Any A-hole can slam their ride on ebay springs for $50. Springs alone dont cut it. It takes a butt load of work to get it right and only a few here have done so.

max ride 41 Jan 24, 2011 06:08 AM

i currently have gr2"s front and back and no problems. i have maxspeed springs, 1.5 front drop and 1.3 rear. i put this setup on 2 and a half years ago and its a little stiff, but its worked with no blown struts. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=max....c0.m270.l1313

cashoit Jan 24, 2011 08:32 AM

Jus get the blues or Illumina kit. I jus wish the kit came in black so it wasnt all that noticeable. JMO.

5150pa Jan 24, 2011 11:06 AM

Why not go for Tein H-Techs if you plan on budget struts.

Decent drop, and more leeway so you aren't riding bump-stops.

bnghyt Jan 25, 2011 08:56 PM

GR2 + Progress (-1.75/1.5) = sporty ride

As per the recommendation of Brian Cattman, Cattman Performance.....and my own experience since installation, 7/10....the GR2 are a 'step up' from OEM.

IOW, GR2 = performance, not HIGH performance.

Meaning they are built to handle a MILD drop....although there IS a noticable difference once they've 'warmed up'.

Very 'IN' the road, but that could be the springs.
Very little body roll, if any.

And remember, sporty = stiffer.
