Engine cuts off when shifting into gear
Recently, my '98 Max w/ roughly 190K miles have been a repair nightmare. I have spent around $1500 on repairs alone in the past year....from the entire brake system to the starter, alternator, belts, battery, axles, control arms, links, struts, etc..etc.....
Now, besides the wiper/clock problem in the other thread, this happens..... On a cold morning, upon startup (RPM around 1200-1300) if I put the car into Reverse, the engine cuts off. Put it back to Park, starts the car again, then switch to Reverse, engine stalls again. Even if I put it in Neutral, starts the car, switch to Drive, the engine stalls again. Basically, from Park or Neutral to any gear, the engine shuts off. However, if I let the car warm up to operating temperature, this does not happen. Any clue what could be causing this? Thanks in advance. |
Clean the throttle body and IACV.
Check the ECT sensor, make sure it's within spec when it's cold. |
Check for vacuum leaks too. Are you idling high?
