timing issues? camshaft position senor threw code...

a few weeks ago, my timing chain made some noise. i was assuming it was the tensioner. then 3 days ago, it threw code for camshaft position sensor. i hadnt replaced it yet though. but i did notice a loss in power.

then yesterday, on my way home to do an oil change, i stopped at oreilllys to get filter and seafoam. i added just a little bit to the oil. when i started my car, it ran like it had a stroker. the motor bogs. (my old maxima, 95, just recently started doing this. i know the lady who drives it)

so i checked coilpacks and maf. no difference. and i changed the camshaft position sensor, and it still has the problem. im thinking that since my timing chain made a rattle, assuming i needed to replace the chain tensioner, that overtime it has tweaked the timing just a bit. and now it needs some small timing adjustments.

i would search, but its a PITA because im using tab and arrows keys to surf the net.

do you guys have any input??

oh, if it helps, i just tried searching. nothing.

it has no power and takes forever to get up to speed. almost as if it is misfiring, but no codes for misfiring. the stealership said that i would have to take it in so they could reset my idle control (i forgot what he called it).

KS code = Retard Timing = Slow poop Max.

Don't ask how I know.

Knock sensor isn't going to cause drivability issues, most wouldn't even feel any difference in performance with defective ks.

Ignition timing is not adjustable on our cars.
The camshaft sensor controls fuel injector timing.
Does the timing chain still make noise? Was the noise only present at start up?
If the chain jumps the vq will run, but misfire on two cylinders. Are you getting a misfire or is it just a bog, loss of power?
Did you swap the maf or just check it with an ohm meter? How did you look at the actual signal from the maf?
Check fuel pressure.
Verify the maf is actually working.
Make sure the exhaust isn't plugged, bad cat?
It's very unusual for a vq to jump time, I don't think it's your issue.(yet)
