another hard start thread
sup org,
i have hard start i did alot of research but no one really had the same symptoms so i went to youtube and found my exact problem im thinking crank sensor (both have been cleaned) cam sensor (swapped from an auction car at work) starter or battery the battery votage is 12.4 volts after sitting over night 13.9 with the engine running this only happens after its warmed up 99 se / auto/ 221k same symptoms NOT MY CAR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PPVH...eature=related runs amazing after its started any help will be greatly appreciated THANKS ORG:D |
Had the same starting issue, new starter did the trick.
Your results may vary... |
I replaced the starter once with a junk yard starter it fixed for a couple months but now it's back and who knows how long it's been in the yard getting rained on
|
Update: so after cleaning both crank sensors and replacing the cam sensor (all done today)
The starting issue has changed but not gone away completely now it's sporadic it also backfires through the exhaust and grinds the starter gears which really worries me if anyone has ad this problem before and could help it would be appreciated greatly |
Have you tried throwing the CPS(cam) back in. Sounds to me that the CPS is not in working order.
I have no advice for the starter other then you may have a one on its way out, But have you looked at the signal plates for both CKPS for damage? |

Im having the same problem too. I had a problem two years ago but it turned out to be the starter. But now I am having similar problems again. I tested the starter but It worked fine. But it turned out to be the ignition switch

you are an auto so no one has separated the tranny and engine to replace a clutch. On a MT this is usually the cause of hard starting issues. THe quick fix is to add a ground wire from the negative battery terminal to the tranny housing bolt.
On an AT, i would say your tranny side CKPS is faulty. Have u tried the FSM procedure. Cleaning it doesnt necessarily help fix it becasue the CKPS is a magnet and can lose its properties. Only fix is to replace it. But try the FSM procedure before replaceing. ECTS can also cause hard starting. |
ground your trans..
|
Thanks everyone for the help
My trans has been replaced I cleaned all the grounds I thought fairly well but I will add one more tonight and report back |
