Don't buy ksport springs
Well I put them on some kyb gr2's with the ksport springs on my car recently. The ride quality is amazing but it seems these stupid springs can't hold any weight.
First off when the car is on the ground I can grab the spring and still compress it a little bit with my hands alone. Then last night I was driving three deep in the car and the back was sittin just as low when I had coilovers on. I'm pretty sure the tire hit the inside wheel well a couple times going over big bumps. Whats the deal ksport? They can make a decent coilover, but not a spring? |
Return them?

Your running a sport lowering spring, then you load up the car.
What do you expect to happen? Gravity 101. Even with the H&R's I ran, 3 or 4 people and the suspension felt the access load. |
the search button would have saved you some money lol
|
I had k-sport springs paired with my GR-2's and loved them I had absolutely no issues at all. You do know GR-2's are OEM replacement shocks right? pairing with lowering springs could cause extra stress that their not made for although it works the shocks will wear more rapidly than with a stock spring. i would think, but thats imo and experience from having GR-2's with k-sports.
my guess if its sitting that low and you hit/rub your shocks are gone imho |

I put k sport springs on my camaro and the rear was soft as a spunge , i hit the bump stops on just minnor bumps.
Honestly only reason so many have the coilovers is the price is so low, but from what I hear the ride sucks and they seem to blow quick.. BC coilovers seem to be the tit now at days for the price. As far as struts I loved GR2's on my 4th gen, my 01 has blues which are not as nice but it could be my springs. |
Gotta pay to play with coilovers. Teins ride very nice. I would love to get my hands on some 5th gen Tein SS. As far as street coilovers its very hard to beat Tein. Their lowering springs are a different story thou.

They can make a decent coilover, but not a spring? where did you buy them from? are there knock off Ksport springs like Teins? if so, perhaps you have a knock off set? Ksport is not a top of the line brand but it is not some cheap chinese knock off either. |
I don't think there knock off. It did come in a ksport box and it does say ksport on them.
I guess its just normal for them to have a lot of play, but dam I would think they would at least hold up the car better. Def in love with the gr2's, way better then stock imo. |
I don't mind their coilovers. Sure some people think they are harsh, but they got to realize that they are not for street use.

No problems here. In fact I LOVVVEE this setup. No one else with the springs have your problem.

Stiff - yes, but you need to consider a few other facts. 1) Your taking away much needed suspension travel, in some cases more then 50%. 2) Sport springs are NOT designed to handle that much additional load in a vehicle. They are designed for the net weight of the vehicle, not the max load weight. 3) Stiffness and ride height of a spring are 2 very different characteristics. |
i liked my tein s techs with kyb gr-2's on my old prelude, it was pleasantly stiff
|
GR2's are nothing more than stiffer stock replacements.
Now with a load, any strut spring combo will compress. Just deal with it. |
if they dont compress under load, that means your ride is very stiff and won't be comfortable. I had 9 front 7k rear for me d2 coilovers. I can tell you that they didn't really budge at all under load. But the ride quality sucked *** and was very harsh.
|
Title of thread should be changed.
"Don't put four people in a lowered car." |

I have ksports in my car and it rides fine with 4 people in it. Mabe ditch the fat chicks.

Wrong.
Coilovers have at least a 2-3 times higher spring rate over conventional lowering springs. Do the math. |

what??? no they're not. illuminas are, i have gr2's and they are a world different from my stock shocks. i paired them with maxspeed springs and hate the stiffness but the ride is pretty decent. and, maybe get rid of the fat chicks??? :p

I guess you get what you pay for eh? I hear allot of bad things about the tein springs, but I've had no issues at all with any that I've owned.
I'd sell the Ksports and get some other springs such as teins, they're a little more money but IMO worth it. |
ditch the fattys or only cart around 1 at a time make multiple trips ..lol

Illumina's have 5-point dampening, so i feel that makes a world difference than my stock ones did. So i don't feel illumina's are stock replacement.

Stop smoking crack! GR2s are stock replacements and Illuminas aren't, they even are adjustable so what are you talking about? |

GR2's and Blues are both stock replacements but Blues are softer than GR2's, that's probably why you feel that way.

Maybe back in the day GR2's werent stock replacements. But go to the KYB website now. KYBs say that thier GR2's are stock replacement and if u want performance then get the AGX.
Tokico still says their HP series are performance struts. |
I've actually heard good stuff about these springs.
|
ive got a set coming in this week aswell as sensen shocks and struts ive herd good things about them mostly from honda drivers though
|
:wall: I like my Ksport/GR2 set up so far, one month.

I'm guessing those springs, like most springs, are progressive springrates, so they're supposed to be plush when lightly loaded, and get stiffer as they're loaded. Helps with ride comfort.
edit: Yup, progressive: http://www.ksportusa.com/asp/springs.asp Dr J |
