coil over check in: BC Racing & D2's
 

Just curious as to how those 4th genners running these coil over systems are holding up? How long have you been on them? Any complaints or recommendations? Already ordered my necessary parts now looking to get new suspension aswell. I'm debating between the two... My options, are D2 Racing Rs coilovers & BC Racing RAM series coilovers. Your input is much appreciated!

are the BRs not available?! the RAM arent really meant for daily driving...of course i've heard they supposedly ride superb

I have D2's and love them. I have them set at the stiffest setting and they aren't comfortable by any means, but the car handles like its on rails.

A few local 5th gen guys have the BC coils and they swear by them. You really can't go wrong with either brand.

Look into Fortune Auto coilovers instead IMO

D2 build quality is not on par with BC racing. I'm comparing a 6th gen's D2 coilovers though, shouldn't really change overall I doubt the company would drastically improve the quality of it's part for the 4th gen.

I haven't rode on D2s, but I doubt I will care too much because of the clearly inferior parts used in their design.

I'm on the BC Racing type BR's, ride quality is not what I expected, but the handling makes up for all of it.

Yeah the BR series are available but I was just tryin to get the best of either but if the BR series hold up well I'm considering those. I ordered to D2's last night at the last minute becuase the guy I spoke with swears by them over BC's... I asked to put the order on hold this morning to give me more time to think a bout it but I'll probably make a decision by lunch!

I here good things about both so I'm just want to make sure they dont any big issues.
I've had Ksports in the past but then I started hearing about the strut mount bolts breaking and knuckles giving out, of course I never expierenced any issues myself, but I sold them when I thought I was getting rid of the car... So yeah I appreciate your input!

I hear good things about the BC's but theyre fairly new to me while D2's have been around a little longer, what sales me is the 3 yr warranty D2's come with vs the 1 yr warranty with BC's. For those with D2's have ya'll had any issues as far as strut mount bolts breaking, bent perches, noise, or knucke failure? These are the main issues I'm trying to avoid as they started to surface in Ksports earlier days when I was riding on them. Thanks again guys!

as far as discussion has been held numerous times, D2s and Ksports come out of the same factory, pretty much just different paint. take that into consideration.

Plus Fortune Auto coilovers are very popular with the s13/s14 guys and the 350Z crowd. I would choose them over the K-sports and D2's anyday if I still had my 4th gen

My cousin has D2's on his fourth gen and I have K sport. Both ride well. But i can tell you this K Sport's struts blow easy. Some say D2's and K Sports are very simaliar, which i can say is probably true. Ive heard nothing but good things about BC's. IM actually thinking about getting BC's in the beginning of next year after winter.

How much is those auto fortune coilovers going for...:D

They just introduced them for the maxima so I would not know about pricing. You would have to contact a vendor. However i know for the s13/s14 they run under $1k. Pretty much the same bracket as D2 and k-sport. But the shocks are much better on the fortune auto coilovers.

Thanks for the suggestion but I looked in their site and I didn't se that they made an application for maximas... I could be wrong though I was browsing through my phone lol!

Just ordered D2 coilovers about a week ago (still waiting for them to come in) once they do and they are installed i qwill take some pictures and tell you about them.

I've installed a lot of coilovers. Time after time, I find the ride and build quality of BC is better than D2.

well d2' and k sports have been around for awhile so you're gonna hear the positives and negatives whereas bc's are fairly new so you're not gonna hear the downsides yet. To me it just sounds like ppl are jumping on the BC bangwagon right now

Im with Aaron on the bc's. I saw them in person and the build quality looks great. If in fact the d2's are made by the same manufacturer as ksports, then stay away... there are 4th and 5th gens round here with them and ride quality isn't up to par.

But, fwiw, JIC FTW, or TIEN if you can find um. I've heard they were nice and they are a big name brand suspension company... im sure James and Michael will agree on JIC's and flava can elaborate on tien's. Don't settle man!

i havent ridden on other coilovers, so i cant compare them to others, but i love my BCs...some of the best money i've spent on my car mod wise

They do make an application for both the A32 and the A33 maxima. Scroll down this page and you will see it under the Nissan Application

I say do some research on the Fortune Auto coilovers and you wont be disappointed.

arent those the same 'shock ratings' as BC...seems like they should ride similiar...they look the part

I think you meant to say that the springs are the same kg which is correct. However look at the shock dyno and you quickly realize that the shocks are doing their job properly when it comes to dampening

Lol basically in a nutshell, the Fortune Auto shocks are degressive meaning the shock gives excellent dampening at low speeds and is not super harsh at high speeds. And Fortune Auto is only one of the few companies that provides a dyno graph showing how their shocks work. I know D2 and k-sport wont release that information because their shocks are crap.

D2 racing and k sport are not made by the same manufacturer or do they come out of the same plant. I deal with both companies and when I have to special order from their international headquarters, they are two separate parts of the world.

Location of headquarters has no bearing on whether or not they use the same manufacturer.

Apple, headquartered in California, and Lenovo, headquartered in China, still both order components from Samsung, even if those components are different sizes/shapes/configurations. But Samsung will still have a standard level of quality (whether it be high or low) for all of its clients.

thanks everyone for your input... wish i could have seen more at the time of my order but i went ahead and went with the D2's... i like that they come with a 3 yr warranty and so far i've seen that those who ride on them have minimal to no complaints. cant wait to get em on! again appreciate it fellas.

I can only speak for the set up I have but I love my BC's. I got the lowest model but they still have adjustable ride height and stiffness. I'm running very close to stock ride height and the softest setting. I find it's still pretty sporty but not a completely unbearable ride. For what I spent I'm happy about my purchase.

There plants are two separate locations. K sport and d2 are not the same company. Call d2 themselves. Illl give you their number and they"ll tell you.

I never said K-Sport and D2 were the same company.

I very highly doubt that K-Sport or D2 are large enough to actually own their own manufacturing facility. They likely farm out the manufacturing to another company. Just the fact that the plant locations are different still does not necessarily mean the two different plants don't have the same manufacturing process, use the same materials, templates, or...are governed by the same parent company. I see it all the time.

All we're saying is that D2 and Ksport coilovers are the same thing because they use the same parts.

Now with you being a vendor and having access to these things, you could easily take a set of each for the same vehicle and take them apart.

That'd be pretty cool and it would pretty much end any further discussion of Ksport = D2.

What we're saying is they both use the same low grade grade construction in both companies.

Example like the Apple one from before.

Both the G35 and the C6 Corvette have the same crappy bose amp in thier car.... Does that make them the same car? No. Does that make them the same manufacturer? No. Does the Bose amp fail as hard equally in both vehicles? Yes.
