A random spring fell out of my 5 speed transaxel

While replacing my clutch. I was lowering the transaxel with a jack... and this small spring appeared on the ground. I wasn't able to see where it came from (inside transaxel...or outside)

The last picture shows where I found it after dropping the transaxel.

Any suggestions? Part of me wonders if the spring is not associated with my current project and had fallen down in the engine awhile ago...

Thanks!

Thanks,

Graham

How did you drain the fluid?

Did it come from that? I haven't played with that thing because they alway break.

The 12mm drain plug is a pain to use but it's the safest way. I had to grind a wrench to fit in there.

Isn't it actually a transaxle - not a transaxle?
Anyway I was thinking the sroing may have been part of the clutch disc or the fork ??

I think it is a detent spring

After reading around the forum, it sounds like it is a detent spring. There should be a ball bearing that goes with it as well. I will search for that once I get back home.

I must have unscrewed a wrong bolt possibly near the gear selector.

Does anyone know if the ball goes in first or the spring goes in first?

I was thinking a detent spring too. The ones I know about are for the gears. The ball bearing goes in then the spring. Did you unscrew something with a flat head screwdriver?

Not

I didn’t removing anything with a flathead on it.

I am still trying to locate where it came from. So strange.

Thanks again!
