S. NJ Brother's 98 GXE - rear ended- Worth $?

My brothers 98 gxe was rear ended on the highway, pushing in bumper and some trunk lid issues (and latch area I'm sure). They said it was totaled for this.. $4400 damage on $4800 value (not sure how they got $4800 worth but so be it )

He was given an option to buy it back (after getting paid $4400 from the other guy's insurance company ) for $450... I presume with a salvage stamped title.

I was going to get it from him (originally for free before it was damaged so this is not the deal it once was ) and with a buddy of mine.. repair it ..

the shop it was taken to took off the bumper ( I presume not just the bumper cover ) and we were going to do the deal but they said they could not put the bumper back on. ..

Sounds like b.s to me..

Question is.. if he got it even towed to his house (it was still drivable after the accident just fine ) .. would this be something someone here would be interested in ?

It seems a real shame to walk away from this max. It is white.. 160+K miles on it.. no rust..

Looking for thoughts on this..

Get the actual estimate to see exactly what kind of damage was done. I'd personally just part it out.

I'll buy it for 500 haha

I would part it out. Or see how much it costs to get it fixed and Contact me. And how much miles are on the engine btw

It had 160K miles on it back in august.. mostly highway.. The estimate was $4400 to fix it.. but I never was told the itemization.. but would be curious how they can get to that number.. Bumper.. bumper cover.. trunk lid.. damage to the latch area.. i did not see much else in the photo.. No damage to exhause he said.

I would part it out it if were mine.. but its in NJ and I am in Vermont.. and I don't see my brother having the time to deal with it.. Was thinking someone would want to drive it away for a fair price if at this point we could even get it from the shop that has it (and probably knows they can do better than the $450 to sell it back to him as salvage )

Since my rear quarters on my 97 blackmax are rusting horribly.. i too was excited to get this 98 ..mileage and all.. but then this happened.

No idea what ran into him.. My wife had the same question... Car with deer strapped to hood? winch ? beats me. Its the other guys insurance that is paying him for it so it must be real..

I have not heard back from my bro today so Im guessing this deal is over.

u can fix that for less than 2000 bucks. Jus need to know the right ppl.

or 4500 is a good sum to put down on another car.

Do u realize if that was a 98 neon, he would be gettin 1000 bucs total!! lol gotta love the max
