All right this is what happens if I am cruising in say 3-5th gear and just floor it {5SPD}the RPM's jump up from like 2RPM to like 3.5 or 4 RPM's.I would assume my clutch is slipping but here is the catch when the rpm's jump up so does my MPH,it happens in a smooth way it dosent all of a sudden click and make the speed of the car increase rather it happens in a fluent fassion.Any way's it only happens if I don't do it for a while. Is this a sign of a bad tranny? To be honest with you I kind of like it,it supplies passing power with out having to down shift it almost feels like a SCharger is kicking in but then the boost goes away.So tell me what you guys think is going on here?

As long as your speed increases along with RPM, it shouldn't be your clutch. My dad used to own a 94 300ZXTT with several mods and its stock clutch was fried, it would rev up but not speed up when you got on the gas in 5th gear...damn, I miss that car:bawling:

clutch
from my previous experiences, that IS a sign of a clutch going bad.
My car was doing that, and one day on the highway, it got so bad that I had to pull over and get the car towed to the clutch shop. I would go ahead and get a new clutch if I were you. |
Thanks for the advice,
I think this gives me a good excuse to go out and buy a new performance clutch and flywheel.

thats what i said too, until the HD clutch and flywhell cam out to be like $600 more than OEM!
Good luck. If you decide on the aftermarket, let me know how it feels, and if its is worth it! |
I just found the ACT heavy duty street clutch ,
which is raited to handle 362 TQ for only $262 at carsdirect.com after the 33% off coupon.I will call stillen for a flywheel price later.

CLUTCH IS SLIPPING!
Yes you clutch is slipping (or so it sounds). I own 2 Maximas: 95 GXE 5 spd w/ no options and a 99 SE-L 5 spd loaded up. I bought both new. ANyways, when my 95 had only about 7,000 miles on it the rpms would jump in 4th or 5th gear when I was pulling around 3-3500 rpm. I went back to the dealer 5 or 6 times complaining and they said they couldn't duplicate it. I took their head tech for a ride in rush hour and showed him (in traffic) that the rpms slipped and his response was "do it again, man". Allegedly, the next day they called me a agreed to give me a new clutch for free and also told me they just got a Servise Bulletin that day (which I have a copy of) that saud 95 Maximas may have clutch problemsand the dealer is supposed to inspect and pay for clutch. Remember I noticed it at 7,000 miles so if you have higher mileage you may be sol.

I think the stock clutch is pretty damn strong!
I have a 96 Max SE 5spd with 74000 miles on it. I have a few bolt on mods, pop charger, Y-pipe, hi-flow cat, Dynomax muffler. I have not had one single problem with this car, but my clutch over the past couple of weeks has begun to slip a bit. I think the stock clutch has held up great with my semi abusive driving habits. If your only going to do simple bolt ons, stick with the original clutch, it's great! I hope I can get another good 70,000 miles out of my next one.

RE:Clutch
It's a little late to stick with a OEM Clutch I allready ordored a Centerforce Stage 3 Clutch and a Stillen Alluminum Flywheel. The 2 of them came out to $798.I think I will enjoy this new setup I will actually be able to Chirp my tires shifting into 2nd for a change.
|
MIne always chirp in 2nd and I even get a little torque steer in 3rd. I'd like to know how th new clutch works out since my 95 max now has 100K on it (93K on the clutch).
