anti-theft system/car won't start.

My anti-theft system was activated and now my car won't start...is this a safety feature for the anti-theft? Or should the car start?

Only the 98/99 models have this problem if im not mistaken. I know it can be reset by a dealer or locksmith.

But is it normal for the car not to start?

If it does not start, you have been immobilized. This NATS (NIssan Antitheft System) has been activated and it cuts the spark signal that goes from the ecu to the coil packs. I believe it also cuts fuel. I had the same issue TWICE.

First time they just reprogrammed it and they gave me a new key. Second time it took a **** on me and I had to order a very expensive piece of sh*# part for the car.

Most locksmith wont have the tools necessary to reset it. Your best choice would be to take it to a Nissan dealer (they tend to rape you for money unfortunately). Try calling a locksmith. I called two and they both were not able to do a thing.

If this gives me further problems down the road, I am going to do a full Ecu swap from a 97 or a year that does not have this.

What is interesting is Nissan knew this was a defective part but they did not issue a recall for this. Many have complained about it but they seem to have just ignored those complaints. The issue was only apparent years later so thats probably why they were able to ignore it...

Good luck!

I actually just had the locksmith come and make me a new key... when the anti theft was activated i needed to use the key in he door to lock and unlock it to deactivate the alarm. Problem was i didn't have the original key, the key i had only started the car. So problem is fixed and I'm a happy camper!

Thanks for your replies!

I too am confused. 95 didn't have that immobilization thing right?

thats correct..99 only. If the OP would add his correct year vehicle to his profile, others who look at and read this thread will know it wont apply to them if they have a 98 or older.
