Control arm splitting
 

Went to get an alignment the other day and they fed me the usual BS about what I need done in order to get the alignment correct, not know that I replaced all bushing and ball joints prior. But one this that they did show me was that my control arm on the driver side is splitting where the two half meet. I was thinking may i can drill a hole it and put a Grade A screw and put a Grade A nut through it then it will be back to normal. Really don't want to buy a new control arm after replacing the bushings and ball joints. Has this happened to anyone can can i get some suggestions

If I can recall offhand, isn't those two halves welded?? Where did you get that control arm?

A new aftermarket control arm is only $35. Why ghetto rig something to save 35 bucks?

Sounds like an aftermarket control arm? I had a set from worldsuspension on Ebay and one ended up splitting on me and the end ball joint section broke clean off, that was no fun. I would replace the control arm with a good used oem part.

yeah....its the one that came with the car i think I've never replaced it just the bushing and ball joints

cause I spent close to $85 fixing the ball joint and bushing but looks like ima have to replace it

I know it may be a little useless now. but you should of probably looked at a new control arm that came with new ball joints and bushings. Would of saved you time and hassle. Not sure if you can still save your bushings and ball joints. I know that when i try to take out the old ones, i always wind up busting the boot open.

I know some guys like the idea of putting a better quality ball joint (moog, for example) and bushing (urethane or delrin) in the original control arm. I don't think it is worth the hassle though...and it costs more to do that than to just buy a complete control arm. My Raybestos professional grade control arms were ~$72 each and seem to be built very well. And the best thing, NO HEADACHE!
