this hose comes off the top steel vacuum line setup pictured. i looked for something near for it to connect to and didn't see anything. am i blind and just don't see where it connects or should it be longer and connect somewhere farther away? this area is the vacuum hose cluster near the fuel inlet line area. any ideas? thanks.

its possibly the transmission vent hose (which doesnt connect anywhere)

I cant tell from the pics though, you took them too close

Imo it doesn't look like the transmission hose, but like said above, the pic is too close. Back away cor the next pic and point to the hose while you take the pic hopefully we can help.

it's not the trans vent hose; that's bigger and appears in the second pic right on top of the positive battery terminal cover.

i've tried to look at the fsm but couldn't figure out anything from that either (diagram too small to figure out what's what).

Interesting, any error codes? Is there vacuum at the hose end when the car is running?

to njmaxseltd: no error codes; i'll check tomorow if there's vacuum on it!

2brosgixxer: no; that's the trans breather. look by the wooden stick in the picture.

Ok, thats what I was gonna say if it was that one. So, to clarify is it THIS one in this pic? And where does it connect to on the other end EDIT: I just saw where you said this already

That hose is suppose to connect to the EGRC Solenoid right next to it. That hose with the lines on it is not the original hose and from the pic, it looks like it was rerouted somewhere else.

surban1 04-11-2012 07:35 PM

yes; it's the one you marked "This One". i should have mentioned no codes in my original post. just went and checked for vacuum...none (at least while engine is still cold and hasn't run long enough to warm up...i'll check again tomorrow after it's run enough to warm up and report back).

back in 2005 (at ~110k miles with ~ 180k miles now), a new EGR solenoid and BPT valve were put on by the dealer. yeah, that ridged od hose is oddball looking (only one i've seen like that on there so far) and is routed kinda meanderingly around.

Here is shot straight down at mine. Hope this helps.

surban1 04-11-2012 08:08 PM

from spark1562's pic and trini boom's insight, and the fact that the unconnected hose has no vacuum on it, i'm guessing that when the dealer changed the egr valve, they found no vacuum on the original hose & connected the ridged od hose (from who knows where) to bring vacuum to the egr valve. when i'm changing the valve cover gaskets and cleaning the egr tube, iacv & etc. sometime over the next few weeks, i'll locate where the ridged od hose goes, try to determine why original hose has no vacuum and attempt to repair & reconnect original hose to egr valve if possible. thanks everyone.
