harmonic balancer

the harmonic balancer is shot on 97 maxima does anybody know what other year maxima or i30 would fit my car looking for used first and will hate to buy new since its close to the 200,000 miles on it

It should be the same on all 4th gen maximas (1995-1999) and the i30. They all have the same engine, and are (pretty much) mechanically the same IIRC.

A new aftermarket crank pulley will run you ~$80 on Amazon. Any used one is likely to be at least 13 yrs old...

Just something to keep in mind.

OP, how do you know it's shot? What are you symptoms? I'm curious to see if your symptoms are like mine.

interested as well, I have a clicking noise from close the a/c compressor. But then again IICR, that is the idle pulley, right?

@clint240sx, 9 times out of 10 that clicking sound your hearing is your drive axle. Do you hear the clicking sound when driving or even more when you try to lock your wheel to a side to say make a U-turn? If so check your axle.

i replaced mine a few months ago after my outter pully on the "harmonic balancer" completely over took the inner pully and snapped my power sterring belt off... it was a fun drive home when it happend lol.

if its going to die the belts arent going to line up properly with the other pulllys such as the idler pully and the a/c pully. (the belt will look like its slipping off almost)

and just go with a new one IMO. but when you go to take bolt that holds the pully on, get the biggest breaker bar you have some 2x4s and jack up your car. brace the breaker against the 2x4 and turn over your engine to break the bolt loose. if your very careful doing this it wont hurt anything. i actualy broke an airwrench socket trying to break it loose before i read about doing that. it was set to about 120psi, the bolt didnt budge.
