Do the '97's have an option to look all doors when the gearshift is moved to drive?
With my last few cars, I always had the doors lock when the the tranny was put into D and accelerated a few yards. I can't remember when this option came out, so I'm wondering if my '97 Maxima could be set to automatically lock the doors when first driving. I think it's important in this day and age to keep all thebdoorsloked while the vehicle is moving. Maybe I'm old fashioned, butbive seen too many car jackings end very badly.
Thanks. Michael |
Not an option for 4th gens...just flip the lock switch when everyone is in.

Stop being lazy and do it manually from the switch.
Or if you're that lazy, tell the passenger to push in their lock; all other doors will be locked automatically to. |
I'd imagine if someone was good with electrics, you could wire up a relay to the switches because I believe when the car is put in D it relays a signal to the ecu.

It would be a pretty tough job. The BCM sends a coded digital data signal to the power window switch in each door to lock or unlock it. The power window switch then sends 12 volts to the door lock solenoid. You would have to bypass the BCM way of activating the door lock solenoids.
It could be done, but I don't think the project is worth the effort. |

Door Lock The auto door locking module easily installs under the dash and adds an ignition controlled door locking and unlocking feature. Six seconds after the ignition is turned on, the module will auto- lock the doors. When the ignition is turned off, the doors will unlock instantly. The module includes an optional connection to prevent an 'open' door from locking during the six second delay. RELAY PACK REQUIRED FOR ALL NISSAN/INFINITI VEHICLES. Key Features:* * • This module can be programmed to lock instantly upon receiving an ignition signal or to work in conjunction with a KP technologies speed switch module. |
no but, some 4th gens do have gremlins that make it seem like it mightve just locked the doors because you started driving. but really it just locked the doors randomly as ****. and unlocked them. then locked them again. and so on.

It's just something that I got used to never having to worry about...carjacking that is :D But at least Nissan should allow us 97'ers to open the door from the inside without having to first unlock it. |
Many remote starters have this feature. It's not hard to do. Find the right wires for the door and the neutral safety switch.
