bose sound system

i got my wiring kit in the other day and i got it hooked up but for some reason i keep getting a popping sound when i change stations, also my headunit keeps turning on and off by itself. i was wondering has anyone had this problem with theirs??

DennisMik 05-25-2012 04:20 PM

I don't know what external factors could make a head unit turn on & off by itself. Maybe it doesn't have a good ground to it and that might be causing both the popping and turn on/off problems.

What brand/model headunit did you put in? Maybe you didn't wire the Metra adaptor correctly.

ibracey 05-25-2012 05:44 PM

i have a sony and i un-wired it and re wired it back up tonite now i will try it tomorrow and see what happens

ibracey 05-26-2012 10:18 AM

ok so i got everything hooked up and it works great but i have to turn the sound almost all the way up just to get it to play loud. did i hook something up wrong on what is happening??

DennisMik 05-26-2012 11:07 AM

What model Sony? I want to look up the wires coming out of it.

Also, did you replace the Bose speakers or what?

ibracey 05-26-2012 12:24 PM

its a sony XPLOD CDX-GT71W and no i left the bose in and got the right wiring kit

Here is a chart for wiring the sony headunit to a Metra adaptor and then plugging into a 1998 Nissan maxima originally equipped with a Bose. In this chart, The Metra wiring adaptor I used is not the same one you bought. I could not find the wiring chart for yours so I used another Metra, hoping it would be the same.

Code:

1998 Sony to Bose Radio Wiring

The colors listed for the Nissan adaptor are for an after-market adaptor and are NOT the

color of the Nissan wiring harness.

The Bose Nissan wire harness uses 2 connectors for the radio; M109, a 10 pin connector

and M108, a 6 pin connector.

M109 contains wires numbered 1 through 10 and M108 has wires numbered 11 through 16.

yea its pretty much the same. i dont know what is wrong with it maybe its nothing and just me. its lud enough when i turn it up so o well

Amerikaner83 05-26-2012 04:41 PM

the bose speakers has a different voltage going into it (lower iirc) than aftermarket. Something about 2 ohm speakers instead of 4 ohm or something like that iirc.

For low sound you need this
http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/999

or this
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142C4NN...r.html?tp=3486

Probably cheaper on ebay. Make sure you ground everything properly for the poping. I just installed a new HU about a month ago. I had the same problem you did. Its all good now. Good luck.

Jayson89NYC 05-26-2012 05:26 PM

I put in a nice JVC unit on my 97 GLE with bose and it was very very loud

maxinout93 05-26-2012 05:54 PM

just a general question since were talking about the bose system. I have a head unit from out of my 93 max and was gonna install it in my 95 max. the 95 has three plug ins plus the antenna connector. My aftermarket pioneer will only connect to two of the three plugs and the antenna thinggy. When i do plug the wires up, the cd player comes on, but there is no sound, Do I need to get a nissan wire connection? are they different years??

ibracey 05-26-2012 07:50 PM

ok method 2 is what i have on my head unit but i have to turn my volume up to like 25 to really hear it

ibracey 05-26-2012 08:07 PM

i am thinking about ordering 2 of these when i get the money. what do you all think?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pre-Amp-RCA-...4d49ce&vxp=mtr and how hard is it to replace an antenna??

DennisMik 05-27-2012 08:49 PM

I replaced my antenna mast because it got snapped off. The motor was good so I just replaced the mast. $12 and not that hard at all. I took the entire motor and everything out to clean and lube it (which I could have not bothered with) and if I was replacing the entire antenna assembly, that's real easy.

ibracey 05-27-2012 09:33 PM

i pulled mine out this morning and the guts were shot. there was alot of water in it and everything was rusted up. i am goin to put an aftermarket one on from like auto zone or something

ibracey 05-27-2012 09:35 PM

yea i pulled mine out and it was water logged so i am goin to put an aftermarket one in from auto zone or one of those places like it

DennisMik 05-28-2012 10:36 AM

This is the place I got my amtenna mast from. They have good directions on their website and I think you can call them for help, too. They have the whole assemblies as well as just masts. Here is the link:

http://www.antennamastsrus.com/Nissa...01995-1999.htm

The whole assembly is at the bottom of the page.

ibracey 05-28-2012 03:21 PM

yea but i dont really want the power antenna nemore. i dont think its a good look at all
