Underdrive Pulleys and Governor's for 4th Gen GXE

I'm thinking of getting the underdrive pulley off the custommaxima.com site. I would like to know if it isn't a good idea to have a big system (1500+ watts) and an underdrive pulley?

One more thing, I'm getting very upset when my friggin governor is stopping me for going faster :bawling:, is there a way around it without buying a ECU chip????

Wow... The governor question has been covered in detail for the past few days. Do a search... Should have no problem. Look for ECU, Pink Wire, Speed Limiter... In the 4th Gen forums for the past week.

why would you buy a UDP? it shows no performance gain :gotme:

ejj Jan 7, 2002 07:07 AM

Don't listen to Sprite. He's never had a UDP. I don't have a big system or and large electrical draw on either of my Max's with UDP's, but I've never had a problems.

If you're intersted I have one for sale...

http://64.252.159.123/images/squint.gif http://64.252.159.123/images/jawdrop.gif come on eeeJ.. give us some story that you have two because you had one in your old maxima and now your new maxima had one ..and you are trying to sell it.. when the real story is ..you know i am right and you want to dump it real quick :D

ok so i am lying and his two maxima story is true.. it still has no peformance gain..

Actcually, the truth is, I bought two for my 97 and though I could double the gains! I tried to install it, and found out that you can't put two of them on the same car...who woulda thought? ;)

If you are going to get something that makes power, the UDP is a VERY weak 1st choice, and EVERYONE will agree with that.

However, the UDP is still a rather poor choice. If a UDP is to perform well enough to show real gains, ALL the pulleys must be changed, not just one. Anyone want to TRY to refute that one?:)

Whitemax Jan 7, 2002 07:31 AM

Remember unlike most mods that ADD power to the car, such as intake exhust, S\C NOS, Turbo, the UDP adds no power at all. all it does is free up power being used, and usually a small amount at that. And no, with a system that large, it would be a VERY poor choice of mods.

Would you be running a capacitor with your system? If so that would help the power problem right there.

my UDP will be on this week :)

Ummm, breathing improvments dont add power either. The do the exact same thing as a UDP, they free up power by reducing parasitic losses on the engine.

For breathing mods, they are reducing pumping losses...the UDP reduces power lost in accelerating the heavy pulley...

ya sure why not, i have no reason to, and i believe you, but it would be fun to make you write up a nice paper:D

I was wondering about this because alot of the other applications change out all of the pulley's. I wonder why this is not true for maximas?

Too much work for so little power gain. The fact that people are only changing one is why this is such a poor choice.

i want a longer paper!
