Security

Had my car stolen and finally got it recovered. I want to prevent this from happening again.

What are some good suggestions for security on a 98 maxima? I bought the club but I know that is just a minor solution.

What kinda of alarm would you suggest? And how pricey are they?

Any other info would be great!

Thieves will take your car if they want to bad enough.

Club is ok, so are alarms. Most people though just disregard alarms when they hear them since they're so common.

It's been discussed here before, but I don't remember where...I think the consensus was a kill-switch to the fuel pump relay that as hard-wired somewhere...

basically, turn car off, and flick the switch. This disables the fuel pump from pumping, and car won't start. Flip the switch and fuel pump is operational again. The key was to put the switch somewhere that it is NOT obvious what it is.

Pull fuses before parking the car.

Spencer5556 09-06-2012 02:00 PM

How much is it to do a kill switch?
Currently I am just pulling the fuse, but they could just take my radio fuse and put it in the fuel pump fuse spot

Amerikaner83 09-06-2012 02:13 PM

that depends on how you want to wire it.

Besides, will they KNOW which fuse to pull to put in tthe place?

Spencer5556 09-06-2012 02:22 PM

I'll deff have to remove the diagram haha but then they won't unless they own a 4th gen, I'll remove it tonight, and just put it somewhere safe, I think that's my best bet, fuse and a club.

i have seen maximas with boot locks on i guess that will work

Quick connect wheel hub lol and take the steering wheel with you. A kill switch is a good idea as well and you can just do it for the negative battery cable

Cant you do a kill switch to the cam shaft sensor? The car will crank and crank all day but it will never start...

There are a few more fuses you can pull.

I believe its only the primary crank sensor that will prevent the car from starting.

Viper makes pretty cool alarms that notify you on your phone when someone trips the alarm.

i have a beeper alarm and a brake lock

Shift_A32B 09-06-2012 06:43 PM

Quick release steering wheel

maxgtr2000 09-06-2012 06:44 PM

Yes there are different fuses you can pull, relays, to disable the car. Kill switches can be put on whatever wires to disable the car. Don't reveal what you actually do to your car because theives probably troll on here. An alarm is only 1 layer of security, if you have different layers it will make it harder to steal. Think about if your alarm was damaged or disabled what other way can prevent theft, an alarm isn't everything but it helps. My alarm malfunctioned but another layer of security saved the day.

I made my own kill switch. I can flip it with my foot when I get in without too much obvious work.

ibracey 09-06-2012 08:52 PM

the kill switch way could be cool but which wire to hook it to??

Spencer5556 09-06-2012 09:18 PM

How much is the stuff for a kill switch?

styliztik 09-06-2012 09:19 PM

I hooked mine to the ignition one under the dash. IIRC, it's one of the thicker wires down there that's black with a white stripe. I used a toggle switch.

Funny you should mention toggle switches. My brother who works at RadioShack came home with like 30some toggle switches, resistors, RCAs,etc that they were gonna toss out because the were "discontinued" packages. I would say it's pretty darn close to $100 dollars in merchandise. Half easily being toggle switches... :)

Isn't that really hard to do while driving?
