oil extractor

will the dip stick oil hole be big enough to use an oil extractor on a 99 Maxima?

ShocknAwe 10-22-2012 06:18 PM

why?

styliztik 10-22-2012 07:02 PM

I usually use the oil pan drain bolt/screw to take the oil out..

Shift_A32B 10-22-2012 07:41 PM

We need to know what for though

The answer to the OP is "probably", just depends on how big the extraction tube is compared to the dipstick tube. But, as everyone else has said, why would you want to do it that way????

edwardh1 10-24-2012 01:41 PM

Many people seem to be going to that method, see it a lot on BMW and MB forums.
Yamaha outboard engines show an oil extractor in the owners manual (and yes they have an easy to get to drain plug, but use the dipstick tube to suck the oil out)

Why fight gravity?

Beyond unnecessary.

You mean you can just take the pan off to the drain the oil? Jeeze, I've been taking my engine out and flipping it upside down and letting the oil drain out from the dipstick hole. This will make things a lot faster.

You are wasting a lot of time doing it this way, it is much easier and quicker to just turn the entire car upside down instead of removing the engine. Then remove the drain plug and use it as a filler hole since it is now on the "top". Make sure you put your dipstick back in first so it doesn't just drain out again. Put a thick blanket on your garage floor first to avoid scratching the roof.

Using this little accessory makes draining the oil via the oil pan plug real easy. And you won't scratch the car's roof or have your wife/gf screaming at you for getting grease on the bed's comforter when you use it to roll the car on.

You're saying just dropping the lower steel pan will drain enough oil? Looks like I can now leave the upper aluminum pan alone and not have to drop the y-pipe, crossmember bar, and AC compressor ever again!

I think that is the same rig they used on the Back to the Future ride at Universal Florida to give the flying effect. So, am I the only one that removes my valve covers every oil change and hoses down my cams with soap and water to make sure I get every drop of old oil out of the block? Likewise, I lubricate the inside of my radiator hoses with synthetic oil to ensure the water can flow thru with no resistance. ;)

A lot of those soaps are bad for the environment. I like to use oil-eating bacteria.
