Gas pedal "sticks" after sitting long periods
Totally weird. I've never had a car (almost 30 years of them) do this.
It's only when "first" pressing the pedal after starting the car and it's sat for hours. Usually over night, but I had it happen when I went to go to lunch at work. I can't see anything rubbing. It really feels like it's in the pedal though. I have to hit the pedal with enough force that if the car is in gear, it'll jump forward. But then it never catches. Not even if I use my foot to pull up on it. Any suggestions? |
The cable between the pedal and the throttle body consists of an outer casing with a cable in the center that moves. There may be rust forming inside. This is what usually happens to parking brake cables that "freeze up".

It's worth noting that a similar symptom can be caused by accumulations around the throttle butterfly. You can clean this area effectively yourself, I am sure there have been many threads about it.

I'll try that and then look at getting a new throttle cable. |
The pedal itself also has a return spring that might be worn out. Theres also a counterweight down there, but I'm not sure if its there to help the pedal return or go down.
