I'm looking to eliminate the pre-cats on a 1995 Maxima
Well i bought a 1995 maxima a few months ago and I found a hole right in one of the pre-cats, so I want to replace the y-pipe with something without the pre-cats,
I'm also a college student on a budget, so i'm wondering what would be the cheapest but most effective fix would be |
Warpspeed y pipe.

y-pipe delete?
|
I don't want to delete the y-pipe, more or less just replace the y-pipe with something that doesn't have the pre-cats, could i get away with something like that in NY state cause of the inspections?
|
Yeah just get a Warpspeed or find a Budget one used on the .org. If you want to go big a guy is selling a nice one for $700 but otherwise you can just get a cheap one. Inspections will be fine so long as you let the car heat up first before testing and replace the o2 sensors if needed

If i had that kind of money I would of bought a newer car than a 1995 or go far and find one without rust, but yeah I'm just looking for a budget one to get me through a few years

I went to a muffler shop and they replaced the precats with "custom" tubes...They worked out great, not sure if I'm missing some ponnies vs installing a Y-pipe, but I felt the difference right away...Lost some grunt on the low end but gained more power above 4000 rpm.

So what you guys are saying is that I should buy this warp-speed y-pipe, http://goo.gl/qio74
versus this cheap fix such as http://goo.gl/e9W0O |

versus this cheap fix such as http://goo.gl/e9W0O YES. The header/y combo you listed needs both parts to fit...the y in that won't fit to the stock headers. And those headers are a biitch to install too fyi. Get the Warpspeed one and be done with it. Either new from them or used here on the org, in the classifeids. |

Have any pics of it? :D
No I don't, but last time I saw it (While working on my clutch replacement) it seems that these tubes were slightly smaller in diameter and not perfectly straight with the original tubes, not a pretty sight (but still felt a difference). I imagine if you install the Y-pipe, the gains would be better and it'll definetely look better. |

i hate to say it, but with stock muffler the warpspeed y sounds like $hit. i immediatley put on a cattback replacement and loved it until it broke in then i hated it.
