***Update 5/15/2020*** Disregard most of my ideas. Post 47 is what works. 1/2" NPT to 3/4" barb fittings are needed.

***Updated 4/24*** Read post 18 and 30 before doing this.

Lowes Racing baby!

IMO $60 for a piece of aluminum is, well, a bit much. Being a DIY'er I had to come up with my own version.

Run down to your hardware store and pick up a 6" pvc cleanout plug. Yes, the same type of plumbing your toilet is connected to! Set the IACV in the hole, making sure there is enough over hang around the valve. Trace the outside, trim it to shape, drill and tap the holes, add a fitting anywhere really, slather on some RTV gasket maker and you're up an running. Paint it black and it blends right in.

I also made a block off plate for the 00-01 throttle body. Its just a piece of aluminium flat stock, cut and shaped like the IACV. At first I was going to leave it blocked, but then got the wild idea to make a hybrid 4th/5th gen IACV setup. Drill and tap the bottom of the TB and BOP and add the fittings. My setup uses 2 fittings, one to delete the 3/4" hose on the mid pipe / resonator.

All plumbed up:

All the fittings are 1/4" pipe thread (mip npt) and 1/2" barb.

VERY nice work!
Looks stock. Lol
I hope the toilet holds up ok..

kenc15 03-12-2013 01:25 PM

nice!! I was going to make some myself, because I have unlimited excess to sheetmetal

cjanderson3 03-12-2013 03:50 PM

Holy Hell this is a beautiful idea... makes me want to get my 00vi parts pile out of the closet and put it on my car.

How does it work/run? or have you started the beast up yet?

Oh, and if this all works I suggest we dub it the "jsutter iacv"

The Wizard 03-12-2013 04:20 PM

Nice work JSutter. Came out great!

I helped a guy install a 00vi about a month ago. While the guys were installing the 00vi, I was in the garage fabricating block off plates left and right...haha.. we used everything from thick aluminum to thick plexiglass..All parts readily available at your local Home Depot or Lowes. :D

dwapenyi 03-12-2013 06:45 PM

That's fabulous....wish I hadn't already bought mine.

luke95gxe 03-12-2013 07:14 PM

great deal makes me wanna put my 00vi back on took it off because of the lack of iacv and block off plates and the wife wanting a running car thats starts . got a fire lit on me now. i will doing the jsutter block off plates

JSutter 03-12-2013 07:46 PM

I'm still working on small things so I have yet to start it. I've been working slowly mocking things up and planning the next step. Should be ready to crank soon.

maxboy325 03-12-2013 08:35 PM

This post reeks of the old Org. It make sense coming from an OG thank you JSutter

schmellyfart 03-12-2013 08:48 PM

Nice work!

JSutter 03-13-2013 11:51 AM

Yup nearly 10 years late to the 00vi party. I parted out a 5th gen about 3 years ago and just really got into the swap.

That's absolutely ok, I say we bring the 00vi swap back to the party lol. As soon as I can find someone to machine my 4th gen LIM for a good price I'll be swapping mine... with the Jsutter IACV plate!

JSutter 03-13-2013 12:46 PM

I guess I should add I did not modify my 4th gen LIM. I flipped it and reinstalled the fuel rail as usual. I enlarged the two center holes in the upper, lined up the ports, and drilled for the 2 outer holes. The outer bolts are from the 4th gen TB. I had long bolts for the inners (must have come off a B13). Seems to be mounted just as solid this way.

98seW/DaBUMP 03-13-2013 03:36 PM

wow

thanks to all you old timers for putting your time in and coming up with great solutions like this. I can't wait to hit up the junk yard and start compiling parts because with all the resources that can be found on the .org i think a novice mechanic like me should be able to get an 00vi setup going.

Kevlo911 03-13-2013 05:41 PM

i like it

i might do the same :o

kasso28 03-13-2013 06:58 PM

That actually looks pretty clean. I like that IACV placement also. Did you have to extend the electrical connectors?

JSutter 03-13-2013 08:14 PM

No wiring mods. I just removed the original tape to separate the tps/egr temp from the iacv.

JSutter 03-18-2013 02:31 PM

With the setup shown there are some bugs to work out with the IACV routing. The IACV sucking in air makes an awful lot of noise. I pinched it off for now just so I could hear myself think. I will have to revise my method of taping the fresh air from under the TB. It may have to go back into the mid pipe. Or I need different fittings.:gotme:

mightyMax95 03-18-2013 03:48 PM

Damn, a lot easier than my mess of a plate. I might have to steal this, lol.

Any updates on this?

JSutter 04-05-2013 05:43 PM

I haven't messed with it yet. Sorry.

ChrisMan287 04-06-2013 07:53 AM

Nice work as usual

MAXIMA_STYLE 04-08-2013 06:44 AM

Good work bro

MAXIMA_STYLE 04-08-2013 06:47 AM

Good work bro. Thats gonna save me about 55 bucks on an aluminum plate.. You use a sawzall to cut the pvc?

Quickywd01 04-10-2013 02:55 PM

I'm copying your TB VAC idea. :D

98maxmatt1 04-15-2013 07:07 PM

Just did mine. Well still working on the throttle body bop. First sheet metal wasn't thick enough. Didn't realize those fittings hit the tb. This project turned out to b a little more than I thought. I'm roughly 45 bucks but now need another price of sheet metal. Had the tb 5th gen and iacv 5th gen. Just wired up the 5th gen iacv connector in reverse order but car having some issues after motor swap. Out of curiosity, did the de to dek swap and now can't read dtc's.any ideas y and how to fix this? Thanks for the instruction post on this.

Cebby 04-17-2013 11:09 AM

Awesome idea!

milo2223 04-17-2013 08:57 PM

Very nice work!!! Great idea for me that am starting with the swap...

mista0406 04-17-2013 09:39 PM

I finally got around to fixing the routing. All I had to do was swap the valve cover breather with the IACV inlet. No more whooshing sound. It starts up and idles fine.

98maxmatt1 05-06-2013 01:54 PM

Awesome. I was getting that whooshing noise as well. Nina try it again. Do u recall the thickness of the tb. Block off. Mine isn't the thickest. Just want to make sure surficiant.

JSutter 05-07-2013 04:37 PM

I used 1/8" flat stock. I got it at Lowest, 2"x36".

98maxmatt1 05-07-2013 05:28 PM

Thanks jsutter. What would I do without u. That's what mine was but think I threw it away by accident. And it took forever to drill those 2 holes out with drill bits. Thinking of using 1/4 inch plexiglass instead. Not sure yet. I have the 5th gen iacv attached to 5th gen tb unplugged, bc was surging, without coolant lines hooked up and idle at 2k. Getting annoyed. I was reading another one of it informative pages about how u made that bracket with the 3 solenoid. I have a dtc for the evap. I ran my stuff identical to how u did except I don't have that one line to little black disc on manifold. Just got it to ambient. I don't have a black disc on manifold. Old metal manifold still has it on but didn't install on black manifold. Should I? Thanks in advance. And how in the hell do I post pics on here.lol

JSutter 05-07-2013 05:41 PM

No drill bits? Get a step/uni bit and save yourself a lot of frustration. I don't trust plexi.

If you are talking about the evap cut valve, yes you should hook it up. http://forums.maxima.org/4th-generat...cut-valve.html

98maxmatt1 05-08-2013 06:42 AM

Can't find my uni bit. Guess I'll go buy another. I had a code for purge control valve. Wasn't hooked up. Now that that's hooked up don't have a cut valve. Oh well nothing I can do about that. Thanks for it help man. Gonna 'redo it iacv set up this weekend. Taking the car to r/t tuning here in Jersey first of June. Excited to c what this thing does. Build a few Honda's highest 560up. There so easy compared to this thing. Prob gonna throw nitrous on this thing later. Just put that on my bike so now have an itch. Lol.

98maxmatt1 05-08-2013 07:03 AM

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/s/?...attd&safe=1&zw what did u use to seal where the barb goes threw the pvc. I used rtv but don't think it's completely sealed

JSutter 05-08-2013 01:12 PM

Just pipe dope, but anything kind of gasket maker or sealant will be fine.

Ever go to New England Dragway? I always see cars from NJ there. I'd like to get down there are few times this year.

You're not kidding how complex the VQ is. VQ's are just so labor intensive. I could build SR20's in my sleep.

98maxmatt1 05-08-2013 03:06 PM

No not originally from Jersey. From Virginia, but moved up here near Philly, when wife got pregnant. Had a honda performance shop in va, now tryin to get a shop in philly. Notice up here the domestic game is huge. I race my bike at atco raceway not sure where new England dragway . Mass, maybe or up state ny? Not looking to race this car, more of just a beater so I don't rack up miles on the project and family cars. Love to come out and see yours. U ran yours?

98maxmatt1 05-12-2013 07:24 AM

're did the t.b. block off and 're sealed the iacv. Car starts great and idled around 700. Took it for a drive, I have an auto trans and shift point is so low I don't have much time after the vafc opens up the butterflies, to enjoy the intake. Next chapter
