Maxima got broken into.. is my alarm faulty?

Hey guys, my max was a victim of a break in 2 nights ago. Woke up in the morning and found all my doors unlocked and the glove compartment wide open with the faceplate of my deck missing along with a bunch of other stuff. The motherf*cker didn't even have the decency to try to cover up his tracks, just left it all messed up to rub it in I guess. No broken windows or damage or anything so I'm guessing he picked the lock? I'm positive I locked all the doors with the remote before I went inside that night.

I'm wondering why my alarm didn't go off? I didn't hear it over night and I'm wondering if it ever went off at all. Is there a way I can test it? Any tips on aftermarket alarm systems to install?

The new viper alarms may work for u, easy way to test factory alarm if to keep windows down lock doors with key, then reach in and just unlock the door, it should go off unless there's another issue.

Sit inside the car, arm/lock the car with the keyfob, wait about 30 seconds, open door by hand and see if the horn honks...

No windows broken, no evidence of a forced entry? I think you left the car unlocked.

Not necessarily. I had my Max stolen a while ago, and no windows were broken. I assume they used a slim jim.

Maybe they used a jiggler key. Took me all of 10secs to unlock my door the other night.

Not implying that's what happened... but it's possible.

Definitely positive I didn't leave it unlocked because those 2 methods above caused the alarm to go off a few weeks ago (I was randomly testing the alarm out of curiosity). Just did it today and they no longer work. I'm guessing it was disabled by the crook?

Well try starting your car. Your alarm(anti theft) and ignition are on the same circuit, so if your alarm doesn't work, car won't start tmk.

If the door is unlocked with a key the factory alarm turns off as well. My car was broken into a few times, they always went through the door. If you value your car you will have an aftermarket alarm with a professional and stealth install, and you will change your door locks. If it has quite a few mods, like boost and such a kill switch would be a good idea also. In other words don't leave it to 1 level of security to protect your stuff. Our cars aren't worth that much and are very easy to break into and steal. I would give more info as to why but thieves patrol these forums too.

Check the door pin switch mine sticks sometimes

The Wizard 04-10-2013 07:55 PM

check to make sure all your doors are actually locking. Pressing the keyfob and seeing the lights flash doesn't guarantee that all the doors have indeed locked. I've seen 1 out 4 doors stay unlocked before due to worn out parts, and once opened, doesn't trigger the horn for some weird reason.
